^^ Freida's movie got worldwide attention. Sexy doesn't have to be about face alone. I mean there are other factors such as body structure, personality, popularity, likability, and how people relate to her. Slumdog Millionaire got a lot of acclaim and Freida automatically was seen as classy and intelligent, and respectable. that's why L'Oreal chose her. Ur right, they could get models and other actors but they're not as likeable as Freida. Queen Latifa was the face of L'Oreal as well. Queen Latifa is not what most would consider conventionally gorgeous but people like her. If they had a someone like Paris Hilton, they will only cheapen their brand. In that respect Freida is seen more as higher end. Also meagan fox comes off as stupid in interviews and wouldn't represent L'oreal's image well. Freida is in no way "average" but IMO her face isn't that beautiful. I've seen prettier Indian girls. She does have that "It" factor so it's working for her. Men would like to have someone "exotic" in the Bond film as well. She can also act very well. In India many girls have that look. They don't however have all the things I've mentioned above which made her sucessful.

Queen latifah is a spokesperson for Cover girl not L'oreal.cover girl is used only by small section of black ppl in america. Its quite ridiculous to compare her with freida whose loreal adverts are shown all over the world(but not in india). Most importantly women don't buy a comestic product just because a celeb is likable.

^ She's also a fashion icon and sophisticated. All that along with her youthfulness makes her perfect to rep l'Oreal.

EDIT: forgot to add. these are just my opinions. u might think otherwise but I'm perfectly fine with that

Freida is an attractive girl, and to some extent the whole label of her in India about being just 'average' is probably because some people find her beauty the norm - its what they see on a daily basis. The west are obsessed with her because she's exotic to them.

they are nottt looking for a beautifulll face they need some one successful and good actress

I could name at least 5 young holly actresses who are more popular and a better actress than freida. If freida is not beautiful ,top cosmetics and shampoo brands would not cast Freida for TV ads and post her pics in publicity placards in the streets.

For example Katrina Kaif appeared in a Pantene shampoo ad in India. And her fame comes purely from looks. Freida represented Loreal - a bigger brand. She too isnt known for her acting skills either. All fame is due to her looks.

So yes, Freida is very popular in the west mainly because of her looks.

Not so much that anymore---It was that way in the 1930s Hollywood though---as that we, in America at least have millions of girls who look just like Freida to some extent and so she can sell to us. Money talks and Freida's type has been underrepresented until now. We LIKE to see a girl who looks like ourselves being held up and glamourized. It gives us hope that if we buy xyz product we can get similar results. It's about money and where we spend our dollars. Do I really want to spend my money trying to look like the child of some other parents or will I be more likely to spend it buying makeup displayed with someone like me in mind?
Americans also balk at being marginalized and ignored and treated as if they aren't worth seeing simply because they aren't born of Swedish or Danish ancestry.
We put up with that for a long time (I grew up with it since I'm older and let me tell you it's DAMAGING and vicious) so Freida is the hope that some little girl with black hair and brown eyes and a nose that isn't pert and upturned as is the norm in only one or two other races can become a beauty in her own right.
It's not because she's "exotic" it's because we are finally admitting that she and those like her are part of us and shouldn't be ignored or left out.
As for Gulshan he's entitled to his view. To each his own. I've seen him in person and he looks like a rather oily restauranteur to me, but hey...he's a BAD MAN.
