Nakul Roshan Sahdev, an emerging talent in Bollywood, has been garnering attention for his impressive performances ever since his role as Salman in the critically acclaimed film ‘Gully Boy’ by director Zoya Akhtar. Nakul opens up on what made him confident about conquering in the industry and reflects on his experience of shooting for ‘Gully Boy.’
Nakul shares that through his journey, he never doubted himself and adds that his experience in film school and guidance by his teacher were crucial in his development as an actor. “I was a very stubborn from my childhood days. Quite frankly, I never saw anything as breaking in or staying out. I have my bucket list of roles and films. The moment any project comes close to it, it's a tickmark. My film school days had built a lot of confidence in me especially my acting coach, Arvind Pandey Sir. He always appreciated and supported me. Whenever I needed him during my days at Whistlingwoods, he was there. He would come especially for me on Saturdays (which was an off day) just to see my rehearsals. “
He adds, “I have had some weak moments but I never doubted myself. I feel I am made for greater and bigger films, and I am happy the big and better scripts are coming my way.”
Nakul reveals how it felt at the moment he bagged his first film. He says, “I remember my second round of auditions with Zoya. I was re-doing the audition scene again and again with the casting director - Karan Mally. After being at it a couple of times, Zoya interrupted saying, “okay stop it. You have got the film.” I think I didn’t believe what I heard, I was blank. It took me a few seconds to process it. But I’ll never forget that room, that moment. It's priceless.”
‘Gully Boy’ also gave Nakul the experience of working with the entertainment powerhouse, Ranveer Singh. Sharing his experience of working with him, Nakul says, “He is all in for the film, a very selfless actor. There is a purity and earnestness in the way he operates on set. I remember shooting the train scene. I felt stuck. I said I needed two minutes to snap out of that limbo. I was in one corner; Ranveer walked up to me and said, “While I was shooting for ‘Band Baja Barat’, I was stuck just like you probably worse. Just don’t take the pressure of retakes.” I don't know what it was, but that one small conversation took all the pressure away. So yes, he had my back at that moment. And that quality stayed with me. I learnt something beautiful about acting and filmmaking that it's like a team sport and we should have each other's back.”
Nakul Roshan Sahdev’s compelling performance as Salman in Gully Boy has established him as a promising actor with a bright future ahead. As he continues to build his career, he stands out for his commitment to his craft and his ability to bring authenticity and depth to his roles.
