War 2' to 'Pathaan 2': Anil Kapoor becomes key player in YRF's spy universe

Over the past decade, Aditya Chopra has transformed the YRF Spy Universe into the largest intellectual property in Indian cinema, bringing together mega-stars like Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, and Alia Bhatt. As this cinematic universe continues to grow, media reports state that Anil Kapoor has signed a multi-film contract to join the fabled YRF Spy Universe.

According to reports, Anil Kapoor will portray the head of R&AW (Research and Analysis Wing). AK is bowled over by the vision of Aditya Chopra for the Spy Universe and took no time to sign the dotted lines for the part.

For the unversed, he begins his affiliation with an appearance in War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan, NTR Jr, and Kiara Advani in lead. This will be followed by the Alia Bhatt and Sharvari starrer Alpha and finally lead to the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone film, Pathaan 2.

YRF's writing team is busy developing several other films under the Spy Universe banner, including the highly anticipated Tiger vs Pathaan, featuring a showdown between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Reports suggest that Anil Kapoor will be a recurring character in all the spy films.

YRF's next theatrical release is the Ayan Mukerji-directed War 2, set to hit theaters on August 15, 2025. Following that will be Shiv Rawail's Alpha, marking the first female-led saga in the universe. While the timelines for Pathaan 2 are still under wraps, the film is currently in the writing stage and is expected to commence production later in 2025.
