The film 'Bad Newz' which recently made its OTT debut on Amazon Prime Videos has been gaining quite an acclaim for the audiences, especially those who couldn't watch the film in theatres. Amid that, India Forums engaged in an exclusive interview with actor Guneet Singh Sodhi who played a pivotal part in the film. Not only this but he has had done engaging roles in films like 'Laal Singh Chadha', 'Love Aaj Kal' and others. Guneet shared his experience of working with such stalwarts of the industry and how he sees his journey moving ahead in the industry.
You have had quite a journey ranging from different film and sharing screen space with renowned actors, so with all the projects where do you see yourself heading?
I've been fortunate to work on a diverse range of projects and share the screen with some incredible actors. Reflecting on my journey, I feel immense gratitude for the opportunities I've had, and I'm thankful that my hard work is being recognized. It's been a blessing, and I can't help but feel that I've been very lucky. From the beginning, I've always aspired to become a superstar, and with each project, I believe I'm getting closer to that dream. I hope to continue on this path and reach even greater heights in my acting career.
From Love Aaj Kal-you had quite an impactful scene with sara ali khan. So how will you describe her as an actress?
Love Aaj kal was my first film and Sara is an amazing person, she's an amazing actor, she's very chill, we had 5-10 mins ice breaking session and we were friends, I enjoyed a lot working with her particularly the car scene performing with her, the dialogues were hard hitting and she's really a good person.
Also, in Bad Newz, your character was the one that actually erupted the chuckles from the audience, especially with the dialogue- 'Mai kisi bhi haal mein inhe apna ne ke liye taiyaar hu'- so did it come out the way you had expected during the briefing?
I feel truly blessed by the positive response from people. It's heartwarming to see them smile and enjoy a particular dialogue when it comes on screen. It's all thanks to the wonderful writing! Anand Sir, our incredible director, guided us so well. He emphasized that the character should exude pure love through his eyes and approach his dialogues with a selfless mindset. When playing Harman, he wanted me to show the willingness and kindness to accept his partner wholeheartedly, beyond any flaws. It's been a joy bringing that vision to life.
How did it work with Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk? Do you remember any fun anecdotes?
It was amazing working with Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk Work. I think I was the youngest on board. So they used to treat me like their younger brother. And yeah, there were a lot of incidents because the film is really fun. And you can't be serious on set. Otherwise, there will be a different energy altogether. So it was a fun film and we all were chilling. We used to gym together. And Vicky used to tell us about a few stories about shooting. And Ammy used to tell about his upcoming unreleased songs. And yeah, a lot of parties and a lot of fun. We used to play table tennis and snooker. When we were shooting in Masoorie, we used to live in the same hotel and used to gym together. So it was a lot of fun.
"How was your experience working with Triptii, who has been hailed as the 'national crush'? Were you familiar with her previous performances before collaborating, and did the typecast image from her role in Animal influence or alter your approach in any way?"
Tripti is an amazing performer, and I've been a fan of hers for a long time. I've loved her work in films like Laila Majnu and Qala, and she's genuinely kind. We've worked together both before and after Animal's release, and she's always been sweet and a joy to be around. I don't think there's any question about her being typecast; she's already proven her acting skills in a variety of roles, especially in films like Qala. She's shown her versatility and talent time and again.
'Bad Newz' is currently available on Prime Video.
