Celebrities often face significant risks while working in the film industry, despite taking necessary precautions. A chilling reminder of this was the accident Amitabh Bachchan endured while filming Coolie, which left him 'clinically dead' for a time, prompting heartfelt prayers from his fans. Similarly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan experienced a serious incident on set, albeit less severe.
While filming Khakee near Nashik, Aishwarya was struck by a car when a stuntman lost control. The vehicle collided with her chair, resulting in significant injuries. Akshay Kumar, who was also on set, immediately sprang into action to help. Amitabh Bachchan later recounted the terrifying ordeal in an interview with Rediff, revealing that he couldn't sleep for two days afterward.
Bachchan detailed how Akshay rescued Aishwarya and how Anil Ambani stepped in, providing his private plane to transport her to Mumbai for medical care. Due to the lack of night landing facilities in Nashik, they had to secure special permission from Delhi for a landing at a military base, necessitating the removal of aircraft seats.
Explaining the situation, Amitabh Bachchan revealed to the entertainment news site, "The car hit her and took her down a crevice and slammed into a cactus plant. Akshay Kumar pulled the car out and extricated her. We rushed her to hospital. We had to go through terrible crowd management problems." He also mentioned that Aishwarya's bone was lacerated with cactus thorns. Tusshar Kapoor too was on the sets of Khakee when the incident took place.
Khakee, released in 2004, featured a star-studded cast, including Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Tusshar Kapoor, and Aishwarya Rai, and went on to become a commercial success.
