In a candid interview, actress Taapsee Pannu shared her thoughts on her distinct role in the Indian film industry, humorously embracing the label of "alternative box-office queen."
Recognized for her unique selections and strong performances, Taapsee admitted that her journey took a different route from conventional roles early on in her career.“Anything which is not conventional becomes alternative. I did try conventional things, but I don’t think they are meant to be,” she said, adding that she quickly recognized the need to pivot towards more diverse and challenging projects.
The actress elaborated on her journey, stating, “I have realized whenever I have taken a step against the tide, is when it has shown the results.” This understanding has become a guiding principle for Taapsee, who feels more at home tackling roles that defy typical Bollywood norms. Her confidence in this approach has made her a sought-after talent for filmmakers looking to push boundaries.
Taapsee mentioned that her reputation comes before her, as directors and producers frequently avoid traditional roles when thinking of her for a project. “Somehow, it does not fall right in my head. Even the makers do not offer me simple things as they are probably aware Taapsee Pannu won’t accept it, and it might actually harm the film,” she quipped.
Following the massive success of Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, Taapsee, who was also featured in Khel Khel Mein, is gearing up for her next film, Gandhari. The movie is directed by Devasish Makhija and penned by Kanika Dhillon.
