RIP Irrfan Khan: Kareena Kapoor to Shilpa Shetty, Irrfan's Co-Stars Pen Heartfelt Tributes

One of the finest actors of Bollywood, Irrfan Khan passed away at the age of 54 after battling with the neuroendocrine tumour for two long years. He was admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Tuesday, however, breathed his last on April 29, Wednesday. His demise is a great loss for the movie industry and his friends and colleagues from the fraternity are still in shock.

 In a film career spanning almost thirty years, Irrfan delivered impeccable performances ranging from Hindi Cinema to Hollywood. Some of his best work include Salaam Bombay!, Life in a... Metro, Paan Singh Tomar, The Lunchbox, Piku, Hindi Medium to name a few.

Khan had worked in several international projects such as The Warrior (2001), The Namesake (2006), The Darjeeling Limited (2007), the Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire (2008), New York, I Love You (2009), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), Life of Pi (2012), Jurassic World (2015) and Inferno (2016).

He was last seen in Angrezi Medium alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Radhika Madan and Deepak Dobriyal. Besides a splendid actor, Irrfan was a gem of a person too. His demise has left all his co-stars numb, who have penned down heartfelt tributes in the memory of the late actor.

Irrfan’s Karwaan co-star Dulquer Salmaan penned a touching note as he wrote: “Can’t wrap my head around this.

You were this humongous talent, a living legend, an international movie star. And yet, you treated all of us on Karwaan and everyone you met, as equals. By some ease of your nature, you made us all feel like family.

You were kind, witty, charming, curious, inspired, compassionate and always fun. I observed you the entire time like a student and a fan. Thanks to you, all through shoot I had a constant smile plastered on my face. I laughed endlessly, struggled to keep a straight face,and so often stared at you in absolute awe.

In return you always had that grin. That amused grin at the world. Almost like it surprised you at all times. It’s how I’ll always remember you. ??

His Piku co-star Amitabh Bachchan prayed for his departed soul as he wrote: 

“.. just getting news of the passing of Irfaan Khan .. this is a most disturbing and sad news .. ??An incredible talent .. a gracious colleague .. a prolific contributor to the World of Cinema .. left us too soon .. creating a huge vacuum .. Prayers and duas”

Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a lovely picture with the Angrezi Medium cast as she mentions: “It was an absolute honour sir ????Rest in peace ??”

Shilpa Shetty and Irrfan Khan worked together in 2007 romance drama Life in a Metro. The actress took to social media to mourn the actor’s demise as she shared a picture together and poured in her condolences. 

“I’m numb today... I haven’t been able to accept the loss of a brilliant co-actor and a fabulous person that @irrfan was! We’ve lost a gem today... but his legacy will live on through the phenomenal body of work that he has left behind. Rest in peace, Irrfan!???????? My heart goes out to the entire family and I pray that they derive the strength to cope up with this irreparable loss??????#ripirrfankhan”

Priyanka Chopra shared screen space with Irrfan in 7 Khoon Maaf and she went on to grief over the huge loss. She says: “The charisma you brought to everything you did was pure magic. Your talent forged the way for so many in so many avenues.. You inspired so many of us. #IrrfanKhan you will truly be missed. Condolences to the family.”

“The endless possibility of a human life. #IrrfanKhan” writes Nimrat Kaur, who worked with Irrfan in The Lunchbox.

Irrfan’s Yeh Saali Zindagi co-star Chitrangada Singh penned a touching note as she sent out her prayers to the actor’s family. 

“Zindagi pe tera mera kisi ka na zor hai Hum sochte hai kuch woh saali sochti kuch aur hai ..I would sit and watch his takes on the monitor during the shoot of yeh saali zindagi . He would always be doing more than what was written in the dialogue sheet .. would always surprise you with that subtle brilliance... .. we have lost one of the finest ! My prayers my heart goes out to the family . Left us too soon #ripirrfankhan” the actress captioned her picture with Irrfan.
