The anime version of Valmiki’s Ramayana is all set to make its way to Indian theaters for the first time this October. Titled Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, the movie tells the epic story of Lord Ram’s fight against Lankesh. After 31 long years, it will be released in theaters on October 18, 2024, in four different languages – Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu. This animated film is being brought to Indian audiences by Excel Entertainment, owned by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
Farhan Akhtar took to Instagram to share the exciting news about the release. The film first premiered at the International Film Festival of India back in 1993 and was later shown on television. To make the movie even more impactful, famous screenwriter Shri V Vijayendra Prasad, known for his work in blockbusters like Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and RRR, has contributed his creativity to this adaptation of Ramayana.
Farhan’s post read, “A tale as old as time, and forever alive in every heart. Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama coming to theaters across India in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English on October 18! Teaser out now.”
This film is a joint effort between Japan and India, having been originally released in 1992. Directed by Koichi Sasaki and Ram Mohan, with music by Vanraj Bhatia, it brings the epic tale of Prince Rama to life once more.
This Japanese-Indian animated movie retells the classic Ramayana, co-produced by Japan's Yugo Sako and India's Ram Mohan. It beautifully blends animation styles from both countries, showcasing Prince Rama’s quest to rescue his wife Sita from Ravana. Despite being created over 30 years ago, the film still wows audiences with its powerful storytelling and captivating visuals.
Set to release during the festive season of Dussehra and Diwali, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama offers a unique cinematic experience. Distributed by Geek Pictures India, AA Films, and Excel Entertainment, the movie is expected to attract viewers across India.
