"My family and my ambition acts as an inspiration for me" - Shikha Singh

Shikha Singh who eaasys the role of Aliya in Kumkum Bhagya prefers playing strong characters. She talks about her character in detail with TellyBuzz.

Shikha Singh

Versatile actress Shikha Singh has always been essaying strong characters and now she is beautifully portraying the role of Aliya in Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya. Shikha's acting was applauded in Colors' popular show Na Aana Is Desh Laado and now the smart looking actress is winning the praises from the viewers for her negative character in Kumkum Bhagya.

TellyBuzz got in touch with Shikha Singh to know more about her personal and professional life.

The audience has always seen you playing strong characters have you ever thought of  doing something different?

As an actor doing different kind of roles is what anyone or everyone looks out for. I have always played something very strong or negative roles in the shows. Like in Na Aana Is Desh Laado it was a positive but a strong character too. My whole persona comes across somebody who is very strong. It is very difficult to visualize me in a bechari and sweet character because mere shakaal par likha hai ki mai kisi ko thappad mar dungi. But yes if given a chance I would love to play versatile characters something different than what I have already portrayed.

What appeals you more positive or negative character?

I would rather prefer to portray a strong character it doesn't matter whether its a negative or positive but it should be something which has the ability or the talent to hold the masses. They should be convinced with the character I play. I don't believe in whimsical characters and thankfully till now I have got to play characters which has left a great impact on the audience, they have either hated me or loved me. Here in Kumkum Bhagya they have hated me so I am happy about it.

Do you get bashing from your fans for your character?

Definitely all the people say that we don't like you. You are a bad sister, bad girlfriend etc. You forcefully got Abhi (Shabir Ahliwalia) married to Pragya (Sriti Jha) now you are forcing Purab (Arjit Taneja) to marry you, all are blaming me that I am a bad girl and responsible for all wrong things. I keep getting messages, mails from random people.

Does it affect you in anyway?

It doesn't affect me in anyway instead it pushes me to portray my character in a better way. I feel if people hate me more than I am doing a commendable job, as an actor I take it as a complement.

What about the equation you share on the sets with everyone?

Its fantastic, thankfully we have a wonderful team, everyone on the sets is fun loving. We pull each others leg sabse jyada purab hee pista hai because he is a newcomer and very sweet to all of us.

What makes you happy apart from acting?

Being with my family and friends taking care of them, cooking for them once in a while, traveling with them are couple of things which makes me happy.

How do you manage staying away from family?

Yes my family stays far in Haryana and I miss them a lot. I talk to them almost everyday without them I can't survive. I am a completely family oriented person but I have to manage after all it's the question of my ambition.

Who acts as your inspiration?

My family and my ambition works as an inspiration for me. They are my backbone and without them I wouldn't have reached to this level.

Beside acting what interests you more ?

Apart from acting I like cooking and I want to learn more of it and whenever I start cooking koi na koi shoot aa jata hai. I want to explore that side of mine and still I am looking forward for it.

Are you content with what you do ?

I am very content with what I am doing right now professionally and personally both. I believe in slow and steady race, I don't believe in shortcuts.

A message you want to pass on to your fans?

Keep watching Kumkum Bhagya and keep giving me the same kind of love that you have always given, keep hating the characters if they are meant for that. Just keep blessing us with your wishes.

Shikha Singh is a fantastic actor, KKB is my first of her series and I truly love the way she is handling her character Aaliya. Her Aaliya almost made her jump off my seat once she was that commendable! I really hope that they give some room for Aaliya to develop and they don't portray her as someone who is damaged beyond repair.
