"I admire Loveleen and her friend's bravery!"- Ashoke Pandit

Loveleen Kaur who is seen as Rano in Kaisa Yeh Ishq Hai…, fights off thugs even as an insensitive crowd gathers and just looks on! Film maker and social activist Ashoke Pandit who reached the spot to help her talks about the unfortunate incident!

Another case of woman assaulted in public and this time it was a beautiful and gutsy girl from the television industry who was the target. Actress Loveleen Kaur Sasan who was earlier seen in Anamika and Bade Acche Lagte Hain is currently seen as Rano in Kaisa Yeh Ishq Hai Ajab Sa Risk Hai on Life Ok was travelling with her friend in an auto near Oshiwara, a western suburb of Mumbai when she was attacked by three people who also tried to snatch her purse. The incident happened on Monday night at around 9 pm when the area is crowded with traffic spilling from all sides.

Both, Loveleen and her female friend who was with her, fought back the thugs with all their might. Even as they caught the thugs and fought them, a crowd gathered to see what the commotion was all about but no one came forward to help the duo. The thugs got bolder and started hitting both the girls while trying to escape. It was Loveleen's presence of mind that she called senior actor Mohan Kapur in the middle of the fracas who was out of town then. He tweeted to filmmaker and known social activist, Ashoke Pandit about the same. His tweet read - @Ashokepandit Sir, I just got a call from a young girl who was accosted in an a/rickshaw. She & her friend caught 2 of the 5 boys...

Ashoke Pandit who has his office nearby was on a way for a meeting when he received the tweet and immediately swung into action. He cancelled his meeting and instead rushed to the place of action and what he saw left him stunned, "After reading Mohan Kapur's tweet I rushed to the police station and reached their in just 7-8 minutes. I learned that these two girls fighting a lone battle while the rest of the crowd just watched. The thugs had hit the girls who tried their best to shield themselves and at the same time gave it back to them. They managed to catch hold of two of the accused while one ran away. I helped both the girls to file an F.I.R. at the Oshiwara Police Station. Afterwards I took them to the hospital as both the girls were badly bruised and needed medical help."

Talking about the incident, Ashoke Pandit expresses shock and anger at the reaction of the public, "It is a busy junction but no one seemed to be bothered as to what was happening. The crowd who had gathered were all busy watching the fight as if it was entertaining and they were waiting for the result as to who will win! I think insensitivity has reached it's peak and there is no respect left for human beings. When we are not helping each other in times of need then why do we complain later? When you are not bothered why do you blame the police, the system and the government?"

Before veering to films, Ashoke Pandit has also been a known name on Television. He has produced and directed the comic sitcom Filmi Chakkar followed by Tere Mere Sapne on Zee TV, Mungeri Ke Bhai Naurangilal, Rishtey, Gubbare and others. According to him the solution lies in changing yourself and the environment around you, "Everyone needs to be a bit more sensitive and think that if today this is happening to this girl, tomorrow it can be my wife, my daughter, my sister, my mother. Stop thinking it is someone else's problem! We also have to change the culture at home and take action against domestic violence. When a child sees violence at home he grows up to think that it is the right way to behave. Schools too need to start value education classes which will teach children right from a very small age about how to behave and this should be a compulsory subject with marks too so that it is taken seriously! Parents who concentrate on marks should be a bit more sensitive and bring a change in the upbringing of the kids."

Ashoke Pandit who has been in the forefront in organizing peace marches when it comes to creating social awareness however now has second thoughts about them after this incident. He emphasizes, "After witnessing this incident I think all these candle light marches are a farce. They should be banned. The tragedy is that people collect when such a thing is happening but don't help and later they collect again to express their solidarity through candle light marches. It is nothing but guilt and impotency which makes you go to such peace marches."

He is however all praise for Loveleen and her friend. Loveleen who looks delicate and soft spoken in her role as Rano in the serial fought like a brave girl. Says Ashoke Pandit, "I admire Loveleen and her friend's bravery. They fought alone with these criminals with no help from people around. I met her for the first time that night and she got more courage after meeting me. She was ready to file an F.I.R., and her attitude didn't change a bit after the incident."

We tried to get in touch with Loveleen who remained unavailable. Loveleen who stays with her relatives in Mumbai has her parents back in Jammu who are worried about her and she has not been taking calls from anyone at present. "I believe her parents have advised her not to talk much about it. She is one gutsy girl who is fit now and already on the sets shooting for her show. Getting back to work is good for her since it will help her regain her confidence at the earliest," ends Ashoke Pandit.

While Ashoke Pandit was Loveleen and her friend's savior who reached and helped them in time we shudder to think what would have happened if the girls were left alone to fend off the thugs? Yet another insensitive side of Mumbai is exposed with this newly reported crime!
