Jee Le Zaraa

The curious case of Jee Le Zaraa continues. From one day to another, it has actually now been almost two years since the internet was put into a frenzy by an announcement.

The Announcement

Farhan Akhtar made a big announcement two years ago when he confirmed that he is returning to direction after eleven years with a casting coup for the ages. Megastars Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif were confirmed to star in a female-oriented road trip film along with much aplomb. In fact, Chopra went on to pen a long note as well where she mentioned how the idea of Jee Le Zaraa happened.

Setbacks, Delays & Questions

However, there has been an almost consistent delay and wondering when the film will happen after all. From news about Chopra quitting the film to date clashes to script reworks and so on, speculation has been rife about the film's delay. Now, two years later, the future of the film continues to be an unanswered question. In a recent conversation with Variety, Akhtar was quoted saying, “We just have issues with dates, and the actor’s strike that’s happened has put Priyanka’s dates into a huge tizzy with what can happen and what can’t, so I’ve started genuinely believing that that film now has a destiny of its own. It’ll happen when it has to; we’ll see.”

The Actual Reason?

But a big development says otherwise. A report in Hindustan Times revealed a different take to the entire saga where a source was quoted saying to the portal, “The truth is that Priyanka Chopra did not like the script and said no to it. She was supposed to come to India for her sister Parineeti Chopra’s wedding and at the same time sign the film’s contract. But things could not be taken ahead because there were creative differences.” As we know, Chopra did not attend her cousin, Parineeti Chopra's wedding in Udaipur, citing work commitments as a reason.

The portal’s source further added, “When a film fails to happen as per the initial plan, it takes time for the director, and also to envisage a new way and decide whether he or she wants to take forward that story or not. Any which way it's a dated story now as it's already been delayed too much. It might take another two years for the film to go on the floor. The makers need to ensure that the story remains relevant for that time.”

Of course, no parties involved in this piece of news have given any confirmation on the same. We will have to wait longer before Jee Le Zaraa happens.
