Karan Johar reveals mom Hiroo Johar's reaction on him being a parent at 40 via surrogacy

Renowned Bollywood director and producer, Karan Johar, has often been candid about his personal life, and in a recent interview with The Week, he delved into the decision to embrace fatherhood through surrogacy in his 40s. He shared insights into the heartwarming conversation he had with his mother, Hiroo Johar, about the prospect of having children when marriage wasn't on the horizon.

Reflecting on his choice, Karan revealed that at the age of 40, his mother inquired about his life plans since marriage was not in the cards. He expressed his desire to become a father, stating, "I told her I really wanted to have babies." Karan went on to describe his mother's supportive reaction to the unconventional idea, recalling, "She was wonderful [about it], but I was taking my time."

However, it wasn't until a year later, with gentle reminders from his mother, that Karan shared the news when the doctors confirmed that three months of pregnancy were complete. The twins, Yash and Roohi, were initially expected in April but made a surprise early arrival in February. Karan had to officially announce their birth from a flight to London once he learned that the story was set to be covered by newspapers.

In the same interview, Karan candidly addressed the trolling he often faces on social media. Despite being accustomed to online criticism, he highlighted the overwhelming love his children receive from the internet community. He stated, "I am used to trolling, but surprisingly, my kids were met with so much love. Even now, when I put up anything about them, there is not a single negative comment."
