Kangana Ranaut’s solo directorial debut, Emergency, has hit roadblocks, and its much-anticipated release continues to be delayed. Originally slated for release on September 6, 2024, the film’s journey has been far from smooth, owing to censorship issues and objections raised by a Sikh group. The group expressed concerns about their portrayal in the film, resulting in the film’s certification being withdrawn just a week before its planned release. Despite the excitement around the political thriller, the movie's future remains uncertain as it waits for clearance.

In a recent interview with News18, Kangana opened up about feeling isolated during this challenging time. She shared her frustration over the lack of support from the film industry and political circles, particularly the Congress party. “I feel like I’m on my own in this fight,” she said. Kangana highlighted the contrast between her experience and how other films facing censorship hurdles were handled in the past. She pointed to films like Padmaavat and Udta Punjab, which overcame similar objections and were released smoothly after receiving support from various sectors.

“Films like Padmaavat faced serious threats, even violent ones, yet they were released with the protection and backing of the government. When it comes to my film, neither the government nor the opposition has stood by me. The industry is silent, too,” Kangana remarked, expressing disappointment that her self-financed project has yet to see the light of day.

Emergency, in which Kangana portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is a bold political thriller that focuses on a controversial period in Indian history. Despite the immense buzz around the film, the lack of backing from her peers and the hurdles posed by the censor board have left Kangana in what she described as “the loneliest corner of the world.”

While films like Udta Punjab in 2016 and Padmaavat in 2018 also encountered protests and delays, they eventually triumphed with successful releases. However, Kangana’s Emergency still awaits a resolution, leaving the actress and filmmaker to battle on her own in what seems to be an uphill journey.
