To be carving out a career in the entertainment industry is a tough task indeed and this becomes all the more tough if you're aim is to do so on the big screen. For actor Ranjit Singh Punia, the journey has begun as he gradually takes one leap after the other bagging interesting characters in big films.
Having played Vaani Kapoor's on-screen brother in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, he now has a cameo in the John Abraham starrer Attack. In a recent tell-all interview with us, Punia opened up on the reaction to Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, his role in Attack, his aversion to TV as a medium and the kind of roles he aspires to do.
How has been the reaction to Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui for you so far? The film has received quite a lot of acclaim
Indeed, the reactions have been great. Everything and everyone have been very happy with the way it has been going so far. The film is special and I had a great time and great role to play as Vaani Kapoor's on-screen brother.
You also have a cameo in Attack. Tell us something about it.
Yes. I play an Army Officer in the film and even though it is a cameo, it is a very interesting character that I am playing in the film. The teaser of the film just went out recently and has managed to attract a lot of love from one and all. So I am hopeful that will also be the case when the film comes out.
You have not been a part of any TV shows since you began acting. Why is that the case?
I was a fashion model when I began. I was, fortunately, very successful on the fashion circuit and managed to have a great 4-5 years. But then after those few years, it started to feel monotonous. I felt there was a lack of creativity and I really wanted to work on something creative ever since.
Then, I plan to began to learn acting where I took up the course and that I would say was the turning point of my career. I learned so much and decided to begin acting on a whole.
Coming to your question about TV, when I started acting, I was clear that I want to do something creative, TV, at that point was about earning money and I couldn't quite see my creative juices being satisfied there. TV is a fantastic medium but I didn't do it because I couldn't see any creativity in the roles present.
Never say never though. If at all I get a good offer in the future, I would be game to do it.
What is the kind of role that would attract you to working on TV?
Honestly, there isn't a particular role or offer I have planned or thought of to take up. But if I am being honest and I would have to do TV, I would make sure that the money is good and that I am playing the lead role of whichever show that is and that too on a good channel.
What are the kind of roles in general you aspire to do?
As an actor, I am open to anything -the length and medium doesn't matter. Be it the character of a watchman, a bold character where I have to do an intimate scene, play an LGBTQ character - anything and everything that challenges me as an actor - I am entirely open to it.

LOL he is funny though. On one hand he said, he isn't doing TV because there is no creativity & it'd be just for earning money. Then went on to say that he'll do anything as long as money is good, he's playing the lead & it's on a good channel.
