Happy Birthday Shah Rukh Khan

For the uninitiated, the day marks the birthday of one of the most iconic actors of our time, Shah Rukh Khan.

November 2nd is as good as a national festival for all Bollywood fans, especially those in India. For the uninitiated, the day marks the birthday of one of the most iconic actors of our time, Shah Rukh Khan. Fondly referred to as the king of romance, the Baadshah of the industry, Khan celebrates his 50th birthday this year.

Khan was born on November 2, 1965 to the Delhi based couple Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, an Indian independence activist, and Lateef Fatima. He is happily married to Gauri Khan and the couple has three kids - Aryan, Suhana and Abram, who was born through a surrogate mother.

After being an active participant in theatre for some time and formal coursework in acting, Khan finally made his debut on the small screen with Fauji (1989) as Abhimanyu Rai, an army cadet. This was followed by various roles in television series like Circus (1989-90), the miniseries Idiot (1991), Umeed (1989) and Wagle Ki Duniya (1888-90).

Khan made his film debut with Deewana (1992), opposite Divya Bharti, along with Rishi Kapoor. The movie became an instant hit and kickstarted Khan's career in Bollywood. He also won the Filmfare for Best Actor Male Debut. He then did a series of films like ChamatkarDil Aashna Hai, and Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman in 1992 that gave him a stronghold as a lead actor. The year 1993 saw Khan's metamorphosis into the anti-hero with Darr and Baazigar. This opened a whole new dimension for Khan as he continued stepping up the ladder of success. The year 1995 proved to be a turning point in Khan's Bollywood career with the epic romantic film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The movie was an all time blockbuster at that time and has been one of Khan's finest.

There has been no looking back for the actor since taking the industry by storm with his immense talent. Khan has numerous widely successful films to his credit and has carved a niche for himself like no other. He has been an active name in film production, television, stage performances and advertisements. He is the brand ambassador for various products and is also the owner of an IPL cricket team. The impeccable actor has 14 Filmfare Awards, 6 IIFA Awards, the Padma Shri Award, Best Indian Citizen Award, Rajiv Gandhi Award for Excellence in the Field of Entertainment, the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Legion d'honneur from the Government of France, and the list is countless. Most recently, he was give an honorary doctorate by the University of Edinburgh.

Khan will soon be seen in Rohit Shetty's Dilwale on December 18 this year and Fan and Raees are his next ventures. All his upcoming projects have already created quite a stir and audiences are waiting for bated breaths for their badshah.
