Celeb In The Spotlight: Ronit Roy

Welcome back in this lovely month of May! To start this wonderful month off on a good note, we're presenting the much loved television celebrity and great Bollywood actor, Ronit Bose Roy, as our next Celeb In The Spotlight!

Ronit was born on October 11^th, 1965 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Born to businessman Brothindranath and Dolly Bose Roy, Ronit is the elder brother to younger brother, Rohit Roy. Ronitpursued hotel management and spent his childhood in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He moved to Mumbai after his studies and lived at the residence of Subhash Ghai, who persuaded him not to pursue his dream of entering the film industry due to the difficulties associated with it. Ronit worked as a management trainee at Mumbai's Sea Rock Hotel which gained him experience in various tasks in his field of work which ranged from dish-washing and cleaning to serving tables and bartending.

While Ronit was working in Mumbai, his father died unexpectedly. Leaving his job, Ronit then joined Subhash Ghai's production house, Mukta Arts. He also moved into freelance editing and did some modelling and advertising work, since it would take him many years before he could become a director. Director Deepak Balraj offered him a lead role in Jaan Tere Naam after seeing his work in an advertisement, which was liked by both critics and the moviegoers; however, his next few movies failed to match this success.

Ronit entered the TV industry with Balaji Telefilms' Kasautii Zindagii Kay's much prolific character Rishabh Bajaj, which became a household name and he became synonymous with the role. He also played several other TV roles and is currently essaying the role of KD Pathak in Adaalat on Sony Entertainment Television. He continued to act in movies during this time, including Udaan(2010), Student of the Year, Midnight's Children, and his recently released Shootout at Wadala.

Ronit also owns a security agency by the name of Ace Security and Protection Agency. It caters to Bollywood actors, such as Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and also to Indian Premier League's ex-chairman and ex-Commissioner Lalit Modi and, his son Ruchir Modi. Ace Security and Protection Agency has also given their services to movies, such as Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum, and Yaadein.

Ronit married actress and model, Neelam Singh, on December 25^th 2003 after divorcing his first wife. He has 2 daughters and 1 son. His eldest daughter, Ona, was born in 1991 and is currently residing in the USA. His second daughter, Aador was born in May 2005, and his first son Agasthya was born in October 2007.

Did You Know?

• Ronit has come to be known as the Big B of the television screen due to his vast and immensely popular roles in the industry
• Ronit has won several popular awards and recently won the Best Actor in a Negative Role award at Star Screen Awards and Zee Cine Awards for his role of an oppressive father in Udaan.
• On October 27^th, 2011, Ronit was arrested by Mumbai police for rash and negligent driving after his Mercedes hit a Wagon-R injuring 4 people. However, he was given bail after a few hours.
