The Sabarmati Report Box Office Collections: Vikrant Massey’s Film Struggles on Opening Day

Vikrant Massey’s new film, The Sabarmati Report, opened with a modest collection of around Rs 1.25 crore on its first day at the box office. Despite featuring a strong cast, including Raashi Khanna and Ridhi Dogra, the film failed to impress on its debut. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the movie has faced a lukewarm reception, with mixed reviews from the audience.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures, The Sabarmati Report focuses on the real-life events surrounding the 2002 Godhra train burning incident. While the subject matter is intense, the film’s opening collections suggest that it didn’t strike the right chord with audiences on day one. The slow start is somewhat expected, as films like this tend to pick up momentum during the weekdays if they hold well.

Although The Sabarmati Report didn’t fare well on opening day, the film does have a bit of breathing room, as it faces little competition at the box office for the next two weeks. While big releases like Kanguva and Gladiator 2 also hit theatres this weekend, their audiences largely differ, allowing The Sabarmati Report to coexist without major threats. 

The film revolves around Samar Kumar (Vikrant Massey), a small-time reporter who gets involved in a major news cover-up during the Godhra incident. As his own report is suppressed, Samar’s journey takes a significant turn, raising questions about journalistic integrity. With the story reaching its climax through Amrita Gill’s (Raashi Khanna) investigation, the movie keeps the audience intrigued about whether the truth will come to light.

The Sabarmati Report has a long road ahead if it’s to achieve commercial success, depending heavily on its performance over the coming weeks.
