AR Rahman and Saira Banu’s lawyer opens up on his marriage

The buzz about music maestro AR Rahman splitting from his wife Saira Banu after thirty years of marriage has rapidly circulated, leaving fans saddened. Surprisingly, AR Rahman's bassist Mohini Dey also revealed her separation. This caused fans to draw connections between the two events. Nonetheless, AR Rahman and Saira Banu's lawyer has now shed light on the situation.

In a recent chat with Republic TV, the divorce and family lawyer, Vandana Shah, discussed her client AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu's choice to divorce. When questioned about whether their decision to separate was related to Mohini Dey also ending her marriage, Shah clarified that there is no link between the two situations.

She said, “Not all all. There is no link at all. Saira and Mr Rahman made this decision on their own.” Furthermore, she went on to disclose that Banu's final settlement remains undecided, emphasizing that it is a "amicable" separation.

Regarding the official statement mentioning the decision stemming from "pain and agony" in their relationship, the lawyer acknowledged that it was indeed a "painful decision" for both parties involved. She added, “When a marriage ends, it is a painful decision. No one is happy when a marriage ends. Divorce is not an occasion to be celebrated. Saira has been through her ups and downs in this marriage.”

During their discussion, Shah refrained from disclosing the reason behind Rahman and Banu's marriage dissolution, citing that she was "not at liberty" to do so. However, she highlighted that while Rahman was a protective husband and Banu a good wife, they are both committed to pursuing happier lives, with or without each other.

When asked about their appearance at Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani's wedding and whether it was merely for public image, Shah affirmed that both Rahman and Banu were authentic, emphasizing that their relationship was not a "marriage sham." Additionally, she opted not to comment on the social media reactions to the use of "#arsairabreakup" in Rahman's divorce announcement.
