Anurag Kashyap's battle with depression: How industry friends helped him heal
Anurag Kashyap

Anurag Kashyap has openly discussed his battle with depression and alcohol addiction. After nearly two years of struggling, the acclaimed filmmaker has now recovered and is expressing his gratitude to those who supported him throughout his journey. In a recent interview, Kashyap spoke about how his industry friends were a constant source of support during his recovery.

In an interview with Zoom, the director of "Gangs of Wasseypur" shared that his daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, played a significant role in his healing process. “She taught me a lot of things and some other people too pushed me into therapy, and even my friends and partners have been there,” he revealed.

Kashyap, who has worked with Nawazuddin Siddiqui on films like "Raman Raghav 2.0," "Gangs of Wasseypur," and "Haddi," mentioned that the actor frequently checks in on him. “Nawazuddin regularly messages me inquiring about my health, (asks me) ‘bhai aap thik ho? Kuch chahiye toh nahi…(brother, are you ok? Do you need something?)’”, Kashyap shared.

He also spoke about his "Manmarziyaan" actress Taapsee Pannu, who regularly calls to check on him. “Taapsee Pannu calls me and the first thing she says is, ‘zinda ho? Kaise chal raha hai? Health kaisa hai? (Are you alive? How are things going on? How is your health?)’”, the "Ugly" director added.

In addition to these, filmmakers Sudhir Mishra and Vikramaditya Motwane, along with Kashyap’s wife Ishika, consistently followed up on his well-being. Their support was crucial in helping him through his difficult times.

He hasn’t made a good movie in more than 10
years. Why should anyone care what he’s going through?
