Sandeep Reddy Vanga's latest directorial venture, "Animal," has been stirring conversations among film enthusiasts since its release. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, the film has sparked controversy for its depiction of graphic violence, toxic masculinity, and misogyny. While some audience members have criticized these aspects, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has publicly supported the film and its director, Vanga.

However, Kashyap's daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, has a starkly different perspective on Animal. In a recent interview with YouTuber Janice Sequeira, Anurag Kashyap shared that Aaliyah strongly disapproved of the film and his endorsement of it.

"My daughter called me out. She hated 'Animal,'" Kashyap revealed, highlighting the generational and perhaps ideological divide between them.

Kashyap also recounted the backlash he faced from friends after he posted a picture with Sandeep Reddy Vanga on Instagram. His friends questioned his decision to support the director, but Kashyap remained unfazed. He humorously recounted his response to their concerns, emphasizing the film's title: "They all came home and asked me 10,000 questions. And I was like, tum baki sab toh chhod do, picture ka naam kya hai? (Leave everything else, what is the name of the film?) Animal. It's not called 'Human'."

Explaining further, Kashyap defended Ranbir Kapoor's performance, praising the actor for fully embracing a problematic character rather than opting for a politically or diplomatically correct portrayal. "He (Ranbir) went all out to play a person who is problematic all the way," Kashyap added, commending Kapoor's commitment to the role.

Earlier in May 2024, Aaliyah Kashyap had voiced her strong opinions against "Animal," labeling it "horrible" and "misogynistic." She questioned her father about his decision to meet with Vanga, to which Kashyap responded that he admired the director and wanted to discuss the film with him. Kashyap believes that the film's impact will be better understood in the coming 5–10 years.

Animal, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Anil Kapoor, Suresh Oberoi, Shakti Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, has announced a sequel titled "Animal Park," continuing the story that has divided audiences and critics alike.
