Ananya Panday is addressing the buzz surrounding her new series, Call Me Bae, which has drawn comparisons to popular Western shows like 2 Broke Girls and Emily in Paris. Since the trailer's release, viewers on Reddit and X have been drawing parallels between her show and these international hits. While fans are eagerly awaiting to see if Call Me Bae carries influences from these Western chick-flicks, Ananya urges everyone to watch the show before forming opinions.
In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Ananya Panday expressed her thoughts on the comparisons. "Just because this is the genre or the theme of the show, doesn’t mean it is the copy of something else. It’s like, if there’s a romcom that’s already been made, it doesn’t make it a copy. It is following a similar format or genre. It’s a template," she stated. Ananya’s comments highlight her belief that genre similarities do not necessarily equate to a lack of originality.
Her Call Me Bae co-star, Niharika Lyra Dutt, also weighed in on the matter. She noted, "All the shows mentioned are good shows. I feel like if it is reminding the audience of these things then it means it is comforting them and they want to watch more." Niharika’s perspective suggests that drawing comparisons can be a positive sign, indicating that the show resonates with viewers.
Ananya continued to elaborate on her stance, expressing her dissatisfaction with how Indian shows are perceived. “I don’t like the fact that when something is made in Hollywood and then it’s made in India, people call it the sasta version of that. Why can’t you be proud of the content that is coming from your own country?" she questioned. Her comments underscore a desire for greater appreciation of domestic content.
She further emphasized, “You sit and watch these shows for hours. But it is coming from your own country… Without watching it, don’t judge it is what I would say.” Ananya’s call to action encourages viewers to give the show a chance before passing judgment.
With these remarks, Ananya Panday hopes to shift the narrative and foster a more supportive environment for Indian content.
