Legendary Designer Rohit Bal Passes Away at 63 After Prolonged Illness

Renowned Indian fashion designer Rohit Bal passed away on Friday after a prolonged battle with heart disease. He was 63 and had been dealing with heart issues since last year. In November 2023, he was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where he spent time in the intensive care unit due to complications.

After a brief recovery, Bal returned to work earlier this year and even showcased a collection at the Lakme India Fashion Week in Delhi last month. During his final appearance on the ramp, he stumbled, raising concerns about his health among his fans.

Following his passing, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) posted a heartfelt message on social media. "We mourn the passing of legendary designer Rohit Bal. He was a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India. Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal's work redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations," the FDCI wrote, sharing a tribute photo of the late designer.

The FDCI further added, "His legacy of artistry and forward-thinking will live on in the fashion world. Rest in peace, Gudda."

Bal’s health had faced significant challenges, including a heart attack in 2010, which required an emergency angioplasty. He lived with a pacemaker, which began causing further health issues last year, eventually leading to his hospitalization.

In December 2023, Bal reassured his supporters through a public statement, expressing gratitude for their love and prayers, stating he was on the path to recovery.

Known for his bold designs and A-list Bollywood clientele, Rohit Bal’s work reached international heights. With roots in Kashmir, he studied at St. Stephen's College and trained in fashion at NIFT Delhi, dressing stars like Pamela Anderson, Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell.
