The 70th National Film Awards have been announced, recognizing the finest films and performances from 2022. This prestigious event honors the best in Indian cinema, with winners selected by an esteemed jury. From standout performances to impressive technical achievements, the awards cover a wide range of categories, celebrating talent across the nation.

Top Honors for Feature Films

In the Feature Films category, the Malayalam film Aattam emerged as the Best Film, while Fouja (Haryanvi) secured the award for Best Debut Film. The Best Film providing wholesome entertainment was awarded to Kantara (Kannada). Kutch Express (Gujarati) won for promoting national, social, and environmental values, and Brahmastra Part 1 (Hindi) stood out in the AVGC category.

Notable Wins in Acting and Direction

Nithya Menen (Thiruchitrambalam) and Rishab Shetty (Kantara) shared the Best Actor in a Leading Role award. Neena Gupta (Uunchai) and Pavan Raj Malhotra (Fouja) won in the Supporting Actor category. Sooraj Barjatya was honored as Best Director for Uunchai (Hindi).

Technical Brilliance Recognized

In the crew awards, Anbariv received Best Action Direction for KGF Chapter 2 (Kannada), while Jani Master and Sathish Krishnan won Best Choreography for Thiruchitrambalam (Tamil). Pritham's music in Brahmastra Part 1 (Hindi) and AR Rahman’s background score were also recognized. Other key winners include Somnath Kundu for Best Makeup (Aparajito), Niki Joshi for Best Costume Design (Kutch Express), and Ravi Varman for Best Cinematography (Ponniyin Selvan Part 1).

Regional Films Shine

Regional cinema also saw significant recognition. Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 (Tamil) was named Best Tamil Film, while Gulmohar (Hindi) won Best Hindi Film. Other regional winners include Karthikeya 2 (Telugu) and KGF Chapter 2 (Kannada).

Non-Feature Film and Writing Categories

In the Non-Feature Film category, Ayena was awarded Best Non-Feature Film, while Madhyantara won Best Debut Film. Deepak Dua received the Best Critic award, and the Best Book on Cinema went to Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography.

This year’s National Film Awards showcased the incredible diversity and talent within the Indian film industry.
