KINTSUGI - LAST PART
_______________________________________________
While walking in the direction of the elevator, her thoughts drifted towards him once again.
It was Neil who had saved her life.
In fact - now that she thought about it, he has been saving her life ever since he met her. Be it from that fatal fall during the trek in Rishikesh, from the goons in Delhi or from the car almost crashing into her due of her one track thinking during the Avni D'Souza case.
And now, he had given her a new life again. The same man who ruthlessly claimed that he was no one but a stranger to Yuvika had saved her mere minutes later. Again.
She pressed the button of the ground floor.
What were his intentions?
How was he connected to her father's scandal?
What was his motive?
Was he really helping her by hiding the truth?
And,
How could he expect her to believe those harsh words he had spoken during the argument now?!!
Yuvika was no fool. She knew that it took two hands to clap. The Mahajans must have done something horrible to Neil for him to react this way.
Something very shady.
Hell, they didn't even spare the son and grand daughter of this family - their own blood - to think that they had ruined other people's lives as well won't be surprising.
She knew that he must have had his reasons. Reasons deep and dark enough to not share with her yet.
The doors of the elevator opened with a 'ding' and Yuvika stepped out, determination shining in her eyes.
But that didn't mean that she would let her 5G Krishna run away from her so easily.
.
.
.
Yuvika felt like she would cry.
She had searched the whole campus of the hospital - working her feet to walk through the entire expanse of the garden, searching for him from the past fifteen minutes - but he was not there.
He was not there.
She found herself more anxious, more impatient and more desperate with each second that passed by.
'Neil, where are you?'
No. She was sure that he was here - he was just hiding.
Panting slightly, Yuvika looked around her once again. The small rides, the wide array of flowers and the water fountain in the middle reminded her of the day of their argument.
It reminded her of how brashly she had behaved with him that day.
No matter how angry and betrayed she had felt that day, she didn't even bother to hear his side - irrespective of whether he would have responded positively or not. She didn't even try.
Guilt settled in her stomach like stones, weighing her down. Still, mustering up all of her strength, she started walking again.
It's alright. She would listen to him this time. Irrespective of his response, she would try asking him atleast once. That was only possible when he would stop playing this poor excuse of hide and seek with her - and finally give her a glimpse of his oh so glorious face, though.
But how will she do that? She knew that he would not appear unless......
Yuvika stopped in her tracks.
Unless....
She closed her eyes shut and clutched her head tightly.
"Ouch-!"
With her other hand taking support of a nearby tree she doubled over in pain, sliding slowly to the ground with a little wheeze. And then she waited.
Soon enough, she could hear the familiar sound of footsteps approaching her rapidly.
"Yuvika!"
Her lips twitched a little.
......Unless he doesn't find her in trouble.
"Yuvika - what happened?! Does your head hurt?"
Neil quickly kneeled beside her and hovered his hands over her, voice clearly indicating how stressed he was.
The same guy who had oh so bravely claimed about being indifferent to Mahajans that day, came running to her as soon as he saw her in pain.
" How the hell did they let you out of the ward- does it hurt too much? Wait, I will call someone-"
Ha. Worst liar of the year.
Yuvika suddenly grabbed his wrist.
"Found you."
Neil stared at her intense eyes in shock, dumbfounded.
"......"
There was a moment of silent before Yuvika began.
"You idiot! Why were you trying to hide from me like a coward?!"
"....."
Once he realised that she was okay, safe and not in immediate danger, he let out a sigh of relief as his tense shoulders relaxed immediately.
"What did you think - that saving my life and calling my family would distract me and I will forget about you? Of course not!!"
"......."
"Do you even know how much of trouble I had to go through - just to see you, Neil?!!"
"....."
Yuvika realised that Neil had stopped looking at her long ago. His glazed eyes were fixated on her bandaged head, seeming to be lost in a far off land, trapped by the monsters of his own.
Yuvika sighed in defeat before standing up slowly.
"Come, sit here." Still clutching Neil's hand tightly, she guided him towards a nearby bench.
She hadn't known that her accident would affect him this much.
Her heart hurt from just looking at him like this.
In the hospital garden, sitting on an abandoned bench was not her 5G Krishna. It was Neil - with hunched back, broken expression and eyes so dull and lost that he didn't even notice when she sat next to him.
Was this how he had always felt when he saw her broken like this? Did his insides churn with guilt too? Did he feel anger at the person responsible for his beloved's state too?
(Cause she certainly did.
To hell with the Mahajans. Yuvika promised herself then and there that she would find the real reason behind Neil's hatred of them.)
She had wanted to seek her answers right away. But with one proper look at Neil, she discarded the idea immediately.
He was a wreck - that was the best way to describe him.. The dark circles under his eyes were indicating that he had not slept for days. His hair was messy. Eyes scared, haunted.
"Neil..." She whispered as she slowly brought her bandaged hand to touch his cheek - finding them wet and feverishly hot. Despite her best efforts to not startle him, he still flinched at the unexpected touch.
...Had he been crying?
He didn't make any move to stop her, and was instead looking at her like a scared child, as if expecting some punishment.
She reached out for his other hand and held it tightly.
Looking into his haunted, scared eyes with all the love she had for him, she whispered :
"It was not your fault."
And just like that, the dam holding his emotions shattered.
"Yuvika," A tear slipped, then another, then another. "Yuvi-" And suddenly, they couldn't stop.
She slowly brought his face to her shoulder and held his waist, hugging him.
"I am sorry- I am so sorry-"
Sobs racked through his entire frame heavily as he crumbled under her touch.
"It's okay, Neil. It's okay." With one hand on his nape, she rubbed her hands on his back.
"Don't blame yourself. It's okay, " Yuvika took a deep breath, feeling the familiar prickle behind her eyes.
"I forgive you, it was not your fault. Really." She ran her fingers through his soft hair, trying her best to comfort him.
"Forgive me-" a sob. "Yuvika." A hiccup. "I swear, I didn't mean to-" a shuddering breath.
He held her tight, so tight as if he was afraid that she would leave - probably reminiscing the day he found her body, unconscious and bathed in blood.
The arms holding her body were almost painful but she didn't stop him, no.
"Shh.. it's okay Neil. I'm fine. Look, I'm alive,"
Instead she held him tighter and continued to caress his hair and back.
Once Neil had considerably calmed down, Yuvika tenderly kissed his hair, before holding his face in both hands.
"Neil, look at me. Listen to me. Please."
Pressing their foreheads together, she closed her eyes tightly, causing the tears brimming in her eyes to roll down her cheeks.
"I want to apologise for that day. I didn't ask you about your reasons and.... just assumed everything."
He opened his mouth as if to deny her, but she stopped him.
"Neil... Ever since you have met me, you have always supported me, held me, gave me motivation, became the shoulder I could cry on. You were always my true friend, the lending ear I needed-"
(It was like along with the shuddering breaths and silent hiccups, they could feel each other's pain as well. It was like they were one unit, one soul.)
"-And I wasn't. I'm sorry I couldn't be the companion with whom you could share your pain with. I'm sorry I couldn't be the person you could trust. Please forgive me, if you can."
Neil desperately shook his head in no and made an anguished sound, as if the mere thought of her apologising for this was hurting him.
"No Yuvika! You didn't do anything wrong! It was- It was my fault for hiding from you, for not telling you anything..."
"But I want to know. If you don't mind."
"....Huh?" Neil moved his head back and peered at her in stunned silence.
Even after sensing his gaze, Yuvika didn't open her eyes and mustered up her strength to speak.
"I don't know what had happened with my father 20 years ago. I don't know why the AV was morphed. I don't know the events which led to Vidur uncle's arrest. I also don't know which Mahajan is good and which one is not.
But I know that I don't want to do this alone, Neil. I don't want to find the truth without you present by my side. I want you to be there, with me on my quest of uncovering the truth of my own family. But more than that,"
She took a deep breath.
"I wish to be your confidante too. I want to know what's going on in your mind, Neil. I want to know what happened to you years ago."
(I want to listen to your side of the story.)
"Though I know I can't - I wish to try and make your pain mine, just like how you made my happiness yours so easily, Neil.
Tell me Neil, will you let me be your shoulder to cry, for once?"
(Will you let me take the reigns of your turbulent chariot this time?)
She pressed their foreheads once again and looked at him with all love and trust, waiting for his answer.
(For the people who say that a person's soul can't be gauged through their eyes were wrong. Horribly, terribly, inexplicably wrong.)
Neil looked at her with all his vulnerability. He hiccuped, before closing his eyes nodding his head.
"Okay, Yuvika. I will tell you everything."
Yuvika let out a wet laugh before holding his hand again.
"You will? Thank you, my 5G Krishna. Let's start again, okay? Together."
This time, Neil intermingled their fingers together before he squeezed back. Firmly.
"Together." He murmured, finally smiling once again.
Nuzzling their noses with each other, they basked in the comfortable silence and peace this moment held. There were many clues to be unfolded, many messes to be resolved, and many devastating truths to be unveiled in the future, but all of that could wait.
Because both of them knew that for now - at this comfortable pace of present they were dancing on - no matter how many times she would debate with herself or the world over her identity as Yuvika Nagar or Mahajan.....
......But to her Neil, she was just Yuvika.

Le Vidur and Bhoomi in the background XD : ποΈπποΈ
Whoops - It's done! The ending might seem a bit choppy and rushed because I didn't want to make up anything about Neil's past ; since I don't think it would be fair to the actual backstory which makers have kept in mind. Hence, the fic ends here.
Thank you all for reading and giving me your views about it
