Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat will compete against Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz in the bronze medal match of the men’s 57kg category at the Paris 2024 Olympics on 9th Aug.
The bronze medal match featuring Aman Sehrawat is scheduled to begin around 10:45 PM IST and will be available for viewing in India via live streaming and telecast.
Aman Sehrawat advanced to the bronze medal match after a tough 10-0 loss in the semi-finals to top-seeded Japanese wrestler Rei Higuchi, who is a former world champion and Rio 2016 Olympics silver medalist.
Earlier in the competition, Aman secured his place in the semi-finals with a dominant 10-0 victory over Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov, a former European champion, in the round of 16. He then defeated Albania's Zelimkhan Abakarov, a former world champion and fourth seed, by 12-0 in the quarter-finals.
Darian Cruz, Aman’s opponent for the bronze medal, is a bronze medalist from the Pan American Games. He has also earned three medals at the Pan American Championships, including a silver last year in Buenos Aires.
At 21 years old, Aman Sehrawat is the sole Indian wrestler participating in the men’s wrestling events at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Ravi Dahiya won the silver medal in the same event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Notably, Aman secured his spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics by defeating Dahiya in the Indian wrestling trials.
India has a history of success in Olympic wrestling, with a total of seven medals—two silvers and five bronzes. All but one of these medals have been won by male wrestlers.
