Sare iconic songs hi copied hai sadly
Just tip of the iceberg . Plagiarism is multifaceted in BW not just limited to music . Nuff said .
However , more eager to know something new . Something out of the box . Like the other way around i.e. others plagiarising BW ! (I only heard about AR Rahman's Bombay theme & JWM story)

Wonder if still can there be true exceptions ? Like hit/popular BW music that's truly original . I wonder about some of the 2010's hits like from Talash , Hate stories , Khamoshiyan , Aashiqui or other Arijit one's ?
That was an interesting watch (and some well recognized).
Still, I wouldn't condemn it wholesalely because there are still differences:
Is the hole melody copied (giving credit or not)?
Is it a sample (taking a small part of the melody)?
Is it a hommage to the original (having payed/asked for it)
I know that Hindi Filmindustry has a (bad?) reputation of using other people's art but honestly, if one looks into the art during the centuries one will find - manifoldly - copied/sampled things.
There are even artists who do nothing else then copie other artists artwork...and get well paid...
And honestly, in music there are only a limited number of notes...

I just find it funny. The original artists might feel sabotaged or offended.

Some don't live anymore, some will not be aware...
e.g., there had been a musical group who made "Switch on Bach" (well made, btw) but I doubt that they would have paid anyone...
Oh my gosh

While original will always be on a much higher pedestal than the plagiarist to me generally , I am fine with latter too if he gives due recognition* to the original while artistically enhancing the original piece . Like this remake for instance :

As of copying/tweaking other's work only slightly , even that can fall under copyright law (as also a theft in my eyes if not given due recognition) . A case in point I remember was 'pyar ki pungi' song . A particular groove/beats of this Iranian song was allegedly picked up for 'pyar ki pungi' song ( can you guess yourself at which timeframes ?)

Iranian band members filed copyright infringement case in Indian court which due to a technical but curable flaw dismissed it before even playing & comparing the two for infringement of copyright . They could have filed again but they decided not to & instead apologized to Pritam the great ! (word has it they were intimidated but possibly could also have been requited behind closed doors)
