Delhi Capitals are currently positioned in 6th place in the league standings, having secured victories in three out of their seven matches, including a recent triumph against Gujarat Titans by 6 wickets. They have shown inconsistency throughout the season, with notable performances from captain Rishabh Pant, who leads the team’s run-scoring charts with 210 runs to his name. 

In the bowling department, Khaleel Ahmed has been the standout performer for Delhi, claiming 10 wickets so far. 

Despite their recent win, Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack has struggled at times, conceding more than 1100 runs in their seven matches.

However, they have managed to address some of their issues, particularly in their last match where they displayed a strong bowling performance.

The team will look to improve their overall performance and climb up the points table in the upcoming matches.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 

Sunrisers Hyderabad currently holds the 4th position in the league standings, having won four out of their six matches. 

Their recent victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore by 25 runs showcased their capabilities, with Heinrich Klaasen leading the team’s batting charts with 253 runs. 

Captain Pat Cummins has been a key contributor with the ball, picking up 9 wickets so far in the tournament.

The team has displayed a balanced performance in both batting and bowling departments, with contributions from players like Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Travis Head. 

In their last match, T Natrajan made a significant impact with his comeback after injury, bolstering the team’s bowling attack. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad will aim to maintain their momentum and secure more victories as they progress further into the season.

For the first time this season, Delhi Capitals have managed to string together two victories in a row and have placed themselves fairly well on the points table (currently sixth) considering they had just one victory in their first five matches.

 But as they gear up for the first match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in IPL 2024, their task of sustaining the momentum won't be that easy. Their opponents are Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have redefined T20 batting with their belligerent approach and are entering this game after surpassing their own record for the highest IPL total.

The bowling has been the stand-out aspect for the Capitals in their recent wins, with the Indian seam trio of Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar doing a good job. With the ever-reliable Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel manning the spin department, the Capitals have finally found their way forward in the competition. 

In the batting department, the arrival of Jake Fraser-McGurk has infused a breath of fresh air to the top order while Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw have been delivering with the bat as well. 

DC, however, will be concerned with the form and fitness of David Warner who missed the previous game.

What to expect: This will be the first match of the season in Delhi, with the venue taking a break after hosting the second half of the Women's Premier League. There were a few high-scoring games in the initial stages of the WPL in Delhi but the pitch became slower as the tournament progressed, leading to smaller totals. It remains to be seen how the unknown conditions of the venue will influence decision at the toss.

The pitch was historic a high scoring venue but in last few years it has produced some low scoring matches in the IPL and other T20 internationals. 
• This year’s WPL has seen that the pitch is relayed and has improved a lot in terms of batting. 
• The average first score of Arun Jaitley Stadium in IPL matches is 165 and the average second innings score is 152 but the chasing side has won 45 matches out of 86 IPL matches played here. 
• The bowler’s analysis shows that pacers have a clear advantage over spinners taking the majority of wickets on this ground. 

Head to head: 11-12 (including one Super over finish which DC won in 2021). DC have a good record in recent years, having won five of the last six clashes against SRH.

Injury/Availability: Warner picked up a finger injury during the match against Lucknow Super Giants and subsequently missed the game against Gujarat Titans. His X-Ray came back all clear but had some swelling around the knuckle of his left hand, said head coach Ricky Ponting before the match against GT. The latest upd     ate is that he is still being assessed and a call on his participation against SRH will be taken closer to the game.

Tactics & Matchups: Heinrich Klaasen has scored 102 runs off 48 deliveries against spin in this IPL, a fact that might force DC to bowl out Kuldeep and Axar before he arrives. With Travis Head having been dismissed twice by spinners, it makes sense to use Kuldeep early, and Khaleel could also prove important as he has dismissed left-handed batters five times this season. Axar is a good option against Aiden Markram as the left-arm spinner has accounted for the South African batter twice in six deliveries in T20 cricket.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has kept Warner quiet in the past, conceding only 18 runs in 29 deliveries and has dismissed him once. He is also a good option against Shaw, having dismissed him two times in 36 balls at the expense of only 35 runs. But Bhuvneshwar against Pant may not be a good option as the DC skipper has scored 79 runs off him at a strike rate of 219.44.
