The Beyonce problem isn't just AOTY. She has won one General Field award in her career. This year too SZA and Victoria got relegated to genre fields while the three white women split the general field.

The Grammys, like many other awards, are popularity awards sometimes.

I wasn't too outraged this year, bias notwithstanding. I though Endless Summer Vacation was creatively more interesting. The biggest outrageous snub for me was last year. Other than wild popularity, I have no idea how Harry's House could beat Renaissance.

I actually don't even think any of Beyonce's losses except ST are outrageous on their own. But the overall pattern to non-white artists is damning.

Kendrick is the one that's the truly ridiculous. TPAB, Damn and Mr. Morale were the strongest contenders each year. But there's a good chunk of the academy that would never vote for someone like Kendrick, so it is what it is.
