Connie Francis's version was the most popular, so am posting these other ones
Oi Lizzie. What a great choice with Joni Mitchell songs and Toto.
@yellow taxi. I feel I have heard it. Esp the words .. don’t always it seem to go .. that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone …” … truer words haven’t been said :)
If you remember I had this quote somewhere else in my post “Everything will be all right in the end. If it's not all right, it is not yet the end…”
both sides is great too.
Here it’s a cloudy / rainy day .. essentially a downer as it’s too dark for spring …. and I was working as it’s crazy times for us…. So I just have GOT soundtrack playing in my headphones while I pushed thru …
Now an evening of some tranquility and back to thug life for the week. 🤗

I am a Mumbaikar, Hello there 😆
Have you lived here your whole life?
hello :)
born and partially raised - most of my years … college and left. Now in USA since a while.
But you know .. as the saying goes … Yeah hain Bombay meri jaan :).
Right? And Both Sides now.. God, that song has so many layers, it’s sheer artistry. I wonder why such artists don’t get more love/ recognition. Because they don’t cater to the masses? It’s nice to know she’s Canadian. I’ve heard so many people say they’ve met her and she’s one of the most humble, down-to-earth people ever it’s hard to believe she’s a celebrity.Originally posted by: KJasoosChulbulP

Oh and as for Big Yellow Taxi you probably heard the Counting Crows version. It was quite popular when it came out on MTV

I feel it has something to do with being a songwriter …perhaps …. There is a place here. Capacity is 90 people max ….. Tickets sell out in less than a minute and are really cheap (they have preserved the experience ….. It’s a small intimate experience where singer / songwriters speak about their songs and perform. And lots of them are not only excellent performers themselves but often award winners for the songs they wrote and performed by some star.. … it’s an experience that words don’t do justice … esp when you hear the stories about songs / Inspiration / influence and then see them perform. :).
Canadians are generally mellow people anyways .. (at least in my experience)
fab song choice :).
Yep I hear you about the intimacy of a small gathering and the connection to the audience. I think with singer-songwriters and performers - they’re both aiming at a different sort of connect to their audience. I, personally, love the intimate setting and feeling of closeness but I can also understand the awe and spectacle. It depends on the music too really. I think they’re both different sorts of experiences.Originally posted by: KJasoosChulbulP

Another difference I find is when a singer-songwriter sings their song versus a cover. A cover if well done can absolutely connect with an audience. In fact, I’ve known people who’ve known and loved only the cover versions (I’ve been one of them). But when a songwriter sings/ performs their own song I feel there’s some sort of soul or depth in it that could be missing (I’m not saying it always is) in a cover,
For eg. hubby played me this version of Fast car yesterday while driving. I find nothing wrong with it technically - the singer gets it pitch perfect. He gets all the inflections right and doesn’t exaggerate anything. In fact I would say it’s a good cover, even a great one. But it cannot beat the original for me. The soul that Tracy infuses into it! 😭 The moods they evoke were so different (for me). The cover version sounds almost upbeat to me, but Tracy’s is filled with raw desperation and hopelessness. My God this song! 😭
