Asin was much popular than Amrita though pallavi-ji.Unlike Amrita, Asin actually enjoyed a male following.
Amrita's biggest "thing" was the she was the girl who looked best with Shahid. Other than that, she didn't had anything going for her.
Also if you agree that Amrita didn't succeed because of her choices, why than blame the industry and nepotism/her being outsider for it.
Vidya Balan, who would have thought she could perfectly play the sex siren of the 1970s and 1980s, but she did and did so brilliantly that TDP won her both acclaim and box office success.
That is risk taking, that is talent.
And Amrita was cocky about how she is sati-savitri.
Although later on when grass was not green, she had to do all things she didn't like doing in Short Kut i.e. wearing skimpy clothes and doing racy dance numbers.

Comparing with Vidya is unfair and going overboard, VB is one of the best actresses to debut in last 15 years and shes extremely versatile, mature and entered the industry with experience on TV. Amrita is not in same category as VB, shes less mature looking, has limited repertoire as an actress. She knew her shortcomings, she could never dream abt doing a Dirty Picture, with her cute innocent looks it would be ridiculous, nobody would even offer her a role like thatπBut she is a decent actress, she has done a Shyam Benegal movie (Welcome to Sajjanpur)...Benegal would not take her if she was a light weight actress.Asin did very few films so dont know when she became that popular in those 6 yrs she was in BWπJust because Asin did 2 movies with Sallu and Aamir doesnt make her a top actressI think Amrita would do much better in current times if she had debuted now, with all the small budget simple movies making waves nowadays, she would fit right in there.

I'm not sure.. Benegal has also taken Karishma (really bad actress).. In the one movie where she acted well.. But then again Khalid who considered Karishma a child and wrote the script of Zubeida recommended her.. I agree Amrita lacked versatility due to a dearth of opportunities.. She could have done more had she been offered more..

Karishma acted well when she got the chance, like she outperformed Madz in DTPH, was very good in Zubeida. Fiza I cant remember that well.If Shahid continued to pair up with Amrita both of them would have benefited, both had their biggest hits with each other.

^^^I agree, Raja Hindustani was a terrible movie, dont know how it was such a Blockbuster, and even DTPH was overrated and boring. Karishma certainly did not deserve the NA for DTPH but she was better than Madz in that movie and her character got sympathy from audience. But her best was in Zubeida, thanks to Benegal, she did not indulge in her usual OTT expressions π Even in Shakti she did a lot of heavy breathing, OTT expressionsAmrita does more subdued acting, almost underacting so shes completely different from KarishmaKK was more of a commercial actress who got huge success with the top heros of that time while Amrita was always in the medium budget, girl next door category who got her best hits with Shahid.
