Naina stepped out of the bathroom after changing into a comfortable kurti and saw Sameer lying on the bed beside a sleeping Nikhil. He supported himself on his elbow while caressing his head. He saw Naina, sat up in his place, and gestured her to sit next to him. She sat beside him and he immediately wrapped his arms around her, "Kya hua?" he asked her. She slid her arms around his waist and replied, "Aaj wahan party mein Chachaji Chachiji mile the. Baki sab bhi the." With that, tears welled up in her eyes. Sameer was silent for a while, he knew something was bothering her. She had been unusually silent when he came back after talking to the investor at the party, on their way back home too she didn't say anything, just looked outside the car window. But he decided to ask her once they were home, in each other's embrace.
Sameer tilted her face upwards and wiped her tears. He couldn't bear her tears, never. He cupped her face and gave a sweet smile. He went towards the cupboard, opened it and began searching for something. Naina looked at him in confusion and sniffed, "Kya dhundh rahe ho?" Sameer didn't reply and continued searching, but after few minutes of messing up everything in the cupboard, he whined, "Isme to sirf mere kapde hai, baki samaan kahan hai?"
Naina came and stood next to him, "Ek almari mein hum teeno ka samaan nahi ayega. To maine tumhare kapde rakh diye isme, baki sab samaan ab bhi ataichi mein hi hai." Sameer immediately rushed to the suitcases and started ransacking them one by one and grinned wide as he finally found what he was looking for, "Mil gayi"
Naina came forward to see what he'd found. But before she could see it, he held her hand and dragged her to the window in their room. He sat down on the ground, leaning against the wall, and pulled Naina down too. She landed close to him, he pulled her by her waist, her back rested on his chest and he brought a photo album infront of her. "Mount Abu wali album" she smiled. He always knew how to cheer her up, make her happy. She turned her head and placed a sweet kiss on his cheek.
"To shuru karte hain flashback" he excitedly opened the album, making her chuckle. As the pages turned, they fondly remembered their first trip together. Sameer boasted about winning the teddy bear for her, while Naina frowned remembering how the leaves of the tree at Dilwara temple did not fall on her, rather fell on Kamya. "Tumhe pata to hai ki wo Munna Pandit ka kaam tha. Aur patton ko chhodo, pati to tumhe hi mila hai na"
"Pati use milta to main sach mein chudail ban jati" Naina stated, possessively making Sameer laugh. As they turned another page, the campfire photos appeared. The game of dumb-charades, giving movies to each other, the lit fire. "Love Love Love" Sameer whispered in her ears, and blush coloured her cheeks, "Sameer!" Even today, after getting married and having a child, Naina couldn't explain the movie to him; his intense gaze never let her.
"Aur ye meri zindagi ki sabse khubsoorat subah ki photo" Sameer snaked his arms around Naina's stomach and kissed her temple. Naina placed her hands on his, "Jiske pehle ki raat usse bhi zyada khubsoorat thi. Tumse baatein karte karte mujhe sach mein pata nahi chala kab waqt beet gaya. Grahnakshatra dekhna, tumhari kavita sunna, tumhein apni pehli kahaani sunana.."
"Wo kahaani to meri favourite hai. Main Tum Pyaar Parivar." Sameer repeated the words he'd given her that night, to form a story. He was the only special person who got to listen to her story. She hadn't told that to anyone else.
"Wo sirf kahaani nahi thi Sameer, main us waqt tumhein wo bata rahi thi jo main apne bhavishya mein chahti thi. Tum, tumhara pyaar, tumhare sath puri zindagi. Aur tumne mujhe wo sab diya Sameer, meri kahaani puri karne ki har koshish ki, lekin" she paused, tracing her fingers on their photos.
Sameer's smile vanished, she continued, "Pata hai Sameer, main har din apne parivaar ko bohot yaad karti thi, shuru shuru mein to rona bhi ata tha. Lekin phir main khud ko sambhal leti thi, ye soch ke ki shayad meri zindagi mein unka sath humesha ke liye likha hi nahi tha.." Naina's voice-over got heavy and she gulped a lump forming in her throat, "lekin aaj un sab ko apne saamne dekh kar, meri himmat to jaise khatam ho gayi Sameer. Aisa lag raha hai ki kaash main unse door hi nahi hui hoti. Meri kahaani puri ho gayi hoti."
Sameer turned her in his arms and pulled her in his embrace. She hugged him tight and let her tears flow. After a while, when she had visibly calmed down, Sameer wiped Naina's tears and tucked her hair behind her ears, "Ab so jao. Thak gayi hogi tum." Naina nodded lightly and they got up from there, kept the album on the bedside drawer, and went to bed. Bit sleep was far away from their eyes
Life had never favoured them, always been harsh. First, it snatched a parent from both of them, and the other parent didn't really care about them. They had a difficult childhood, where their own parent didn't value them. Then their love story had it's own share of problems. When they were finally happy with their families, with each other, life took away their family. They were reminiscing about their families, and slowly, sleep took over.
The next morning, slight pats on his cheek disturbed Sameer's sleep. He turned towards his right, protecting his cheeks, but the pats continued on his left cheek. Annoyed, he turned back and frowned loudly, "Yaar kaun.." but he stopped seeing the person infront of him. All his annoyance went down the drain at the innocent sight. "Paa" called Nikhil in his cute voice, with his brown eyes opened wide at Sameer's raised voice.
"Papa ko utha diya, very good!" Naina quipped and Nikhik beamed wide at her. She placed a cup of tea on the bedside drawer, "chai pi lo aur phir jaldi naha lo, phir mujhe nahana hai, Nikhil ko nehlana hai, bohot kaam hai aaj."
"Naina," Sameer came up to her and held her shoulders, and asked, "tum thik ho?" She smiled, for him, and replied, "main bilkul thik hu."
But he could see through her, she was smiling, trying to be normal, only for him. Because he would be sad seeing her gloomy face, and she knew that. He smiled, and it slowly turned into a grin, "Mujhe nahane mein time lagega, tumhe itni hi jaldi hai to sath mein naha lo" with that, he pulled her to him, his hands wrapping around her waist and face leaning closer to her. "Phir to naha liye hum aaj aaj mein! Tum please bakwas mat karo aur jaldi se naha ke aao" she giggled, pushing him away. She finally smiled genuinely.
Sameer came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist and another in his hand. He was drying his hair with the towel, infront of the mirror when he saw Naina take her clothes and go inside the bathroom. As soon as he heard the bathroom door close, he quickly picked up the telephone and dialed a number.
Everyone had just settled on the breakfast table, when the doorbell rang. Ramdhari went and opened the door, and two people came in like a storm and just hugged Sameer. "Munna Pandit!" Naina exclaimed in surprise, but soon another surprise hugged her, "Kaisi hai tu?" Swati could barely speak, meeting her friend after so many years had overwhelmed her. The friends hugged each other till they found it difficult to breath. It was then that Naina noticed Preeti standing at the door. She had crossed her arms at her chest and looked at them with a stern face.
Naina moved towards Preeti but she stopped her, "Aage mat aa. Wahin reh." Naina knew she was hurt and had the right to be angry. "Preeti, gussa mat ho na..." she began apologetically but Preeti yelled, "Main hu kaun gussa hone wali? Tune to Mujhe kuch samjha nhi, to kis haq se gussa hou main? Kya lagti hu teri?"
Naina ran and hugged her tight, tears flowing from her eyes and Preeti's as well. "Tu mujhe kuch batati kyu nahi kabhi!" Preeti complained as she hugged her sister tighter. "Sorry" was all Naina could say. The two sisters just hugged each other and cried their hearts out. Soon, Swati too joined them, followed by Sameer, Munna and Pandit.
