"That freedom can never be attained by a nation without suffering and sacrifice has been amply borne out by the recent tragic happenings in this subcontinent."
-Muhammad Ali Jinnah

Indepen
dence is a state when a country is dictated by a self-government. Independence is f r e e d o m. Independence is a breath of f r e s h air. Independence is s o l a c e. Independence is green. One can understand the value of it once that freedom has been deprived from oneself.

Pakistan is one of the largest Muslim states in the whole world. It found it's way towards liberty during the year 1947, from the Indian sub-continent. The 14th of August, The Independence Day, is marked on every Pakistani's calendar and is commemorated among them fervently.

The nation today, encompasses of the major counties- Punjab, Baluchistan and the North West Frontier Province alongside the Federal Capital and other tribal regions. The tribal regions that fall under the government of Pakistan are Khyber, Kurram, Malakand, Mohmand, North Wazirsthan and South Nazirsthan. Islamabad is the capital city of the country.

On this very date of 14th August, we rejoice our freedom and put our hand over our beating heart in the honor of the brave martyrs who gave themselves for their country. Every school, colleges, universities and government offices are declared to be on a holiday on this special occasion.

In the Assembly at 8:30 a.m., the military treks past. And after that, at 9:30 a.m. the armed and defense forces salute with 38 firings of the shotguns.

As this day holds great significance in our life, we celebrate it by preparing special dishes and by elating the moment with our friends and family.

"We have undoubtedly achieved Pakistan, and that too without bloody war and practically peacefully, by moral and intellectual force, and with the power of the pen, which is no less mighty than that of the sword and so our righteous cause has triumphed. Are we now going to besmear and tarnish this greatest achievement for which there is no parallel in the history of the world? Pakistan is now a fait accompli and it can never be undone, besides, it was the only just, honourable, and practical solution of the most complex constitutional problem of this great subcontinent. Let us now plan to build and reconstruct and regenerate our great nation..."

-Mohammad Ali Jinnah

This year marks the 69th year since we got our freedom from the British rule. Much of the credit goes to Mohammad Ali Jinnah, his supporters and their determination that Pakistan emerge as an independent Muslim estate. Today we benefit from the struggle they went through.

But being a Pakistani, how well you know about its culture and history? Well we CC's have a set of questions for you! Let's see how much you know!

1. What does the flag of Pakistan represent?

2. In which year did Pakistan win the Cricket World Cup?

3. What was the Capital of Pakistan before Islamabad?

4. Where was the Pakistan Resolution presented?

5. How many languages are spoken in Pakistan and what's the official language?

6. First Census was held in Pakistan in what year?

7. Who was the first president of Pakistan?

8. Pakistan has 7 of the 16 highest peaks in Asia. Name any three.

9. When did Pakistan become a Republic?

10. The motto of the state emblem of Pakistan is?

Know the answers to these questions? Be proud if you do and don't forget to share them in a comment below!
