Pakistani folk singer Humaira Channa has refused to accept Sanam Marvi, an emerging folk singer from Sindh, as 'Bulbul-e-Mehran (Nightingale of Mehran)', saying the singer who copies Abida Perveen — Sindhi singer and one of the foremost exponents of Sufi music — does not deserve the title of 'Bulbul-e-Mehran'.
"Abida Perveen, Reshma, Pathany Khan and Attaullah Essa Khelvi are the singers who sung their regional music and got recognition across world. Sanam Marvi is far behind from these great names," she told daily Nai Baat.
"I am passing through learning stage and I never consider myself as a complete singer," she added.
It is pertinent to mention here that Sanam Marvi will represent Pakistan in Sufi music festivals that would be held at Morocco, France and Japan.
