One of the year's most-awaited movies, Rang De Basanti, is scheduled to release this month.
Starring Aamir Khan, the film is directed by Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra, who gave us the eerie but well-directed Aks.

Here's a quick look at Mehra's latest film, which has even ruffled a few feathers in the Indian Air Force.

Rang De Basanti tells the story of a London-based filmmaker (Alice Patten, left), who stumbles upon her grandfather's diaries. Her grandfather was in the British police force during India's Independence Movement.
She approaches DJ (Khan) and his friends for her project, but they seem disinterested, as they cannot identify with a past they have only read about.

Rang De Basanti juxtaposes 1930s India -- under British colonial rule -- with contemporary India, and how the youngsters are finally jolted out of their hedonistic cocoon.

R Madhavan plays Flight Lieutenant Ajay Rathod.
Even though his last Hindi film Ramji Londonwale sank, this actor is enjoying the limelight, thanks to his television show, Deal Ya No Deal.

With Rang De... he shares screen space with Soha Ali Khan for the first time.

Soha has yet to make a breakthrough in her career. Will this film do to her what Dil Chahta Hai did to her brother Saif? Only time will tell.

Sharman Joshi had a bit of luck with his earlier film, Style, a surprise hit.
But the films that followed, like Xcuse Me and Shaadi No 1, did nothing to his career.

In Rang De, Sharman plays Sukhi, a guy waiting to be hitched.

The film also stars Siddharth (extreme left) -- fresh after his big Telugu hit, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana) -- and Kunal Kapoor (second from right) (Meenaxi).
This is Siddharth's first Hindi film.

Rang De has already landed itself into controversy, after the Indian Air Force objected to certain scenes in it.
After a special screening held for the Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the IAF cleared the film after suggesting three cuts to the Censor Board.

Censor Board chief Sharmila Tagore has not recommended cuts yet. Is it because her daughter Soha stars in the film?

This is Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra's second film after Aks (which had Amitabh Bachchan and Manoj Bajpai in chilling roles).
The music, composed by A R Rahman, is doing very well.

If all goes well, Rang De Basanti will release on January 20.
