Chapter 3:
"Well Mr. Khurana…." she began.
**********************
"The results from the paternity test came by right now, and well, here are the reports" said Dr. Chadda, handing over the file to Mr. Khurana.
With trembling hands, his own nervousness and fear was astonishing him, he opened the file to read the words POSITIVE. BABY'S FATHER IS MR. DEV KHURANA.
He dropped the file in shock, although he wasn't completely unaware of his brother's foolishness, he never thought he would stoop to this level, and father a baby with some woman without even committing to her. His voice thundered as he asked the doctor "WHERE IS HE?"
Both Muskaan and Geet looked at him shocked, astounded at how anger seemed to have taken over his face and how loud his voice had gotten. Everyone who was within a kilometer seemed to have heard his voice as people slowly peered into the room to see what was going on.
Muskaan, her voice shivering with fright, stuttered "Um..um..He left. He walked out of the hospital even when we were screaming to him to stop."
"THEN WHY DIDN'T ANYONE BOTHER TO COME AND INFORM ME?" his voice was now like a lion's roar and the poor babies in the hospital had began to cry hearing this man scream.
Muskaan gained her voice back, after seeing how he was behaving, and with a strict tone, she told him "Mr. Khurana. Yeh ek hospital hain. This isn't your own house where you can scream and yell and do whatever you want. So please leave before I will have to call security to escort you out of the building."
Geet, sensing how embarrassing this could be for the Khuranas if he was led out by security, imaging how the media would have a party with this news, she placed a hand on his shoulder, smiling softly at Dr. Chadda, and said "No need for security. We'll leave now. Thanks for all your help."
Without saying a word, he began to follow Geet out the door, realizing how out of control his anger was getting and how he needed to calm down. As he was leaving though he herd Dr. Chadda muttering under her breath "Poor sweet girl. She's stuck with such a khadoos."
Both of them got into the car, where he ordered the driver to take them to the Khurana mansion. Geet, clutching the file tightly in her hands, was a ball of nerves as to what would happen when they reached. The car slowly pulled to a stop in front of the Khurana Mansion. He grabbed her hand and literally dragged her out of the car and into the house.
The man who opened the door, Ramu Kaka, stared bewildered at his anger and fury and was even more surprised at seeing him drag the girl to the study. However, not wanting to interfere, he quickly left the scene and busied himself in the kitchen.
****************
Back in the study, he was pacing back and forth, really bent on creating a dent in the floor. Geet however, was just standing on the side, waiting for him to say something. "Can…Can I leave now?" she questioned, her voice low, as she realized it was getting late and her roommate would start worrying.
"WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOURSELF? YOU CREATED THIS ENTIRE MESS SO NOW SHUT UP AND STAY HERE UNTIL I FIGURE OUT A WAY TO DEAL WITH IT" he shouted, erupting on the poor girl in front of him.
Luckily for Geet, Dev chose right that moment to knock on the door, and walked inside into his brother's study, more like walking into the lion's cave. 😆
"Bhaiya…" he began, "It was a mistake…"
"WHAT was a mistake? The fact that you could have been so careless? The fact that you got her pregnant? Or the fact that you weren't willing to take responsibility for your actions? What's wrong with you? I thought you actually had common sense, but you seem to be lacking in even that department." He burst out, marking the beginning of the long tirade that would follow.
"Bhaiya. Just give me a chance to speak. I'll learn from my mistakes, just let it go na, just this once?" pleaded his brother.
"Don't you dare call me bhaiya again. I'm ashamed to even think of you as my own brother. But what were you saying? You'll learn from your mistakes? Do you think I'm going to let you out of my sight after this stupidity of yours? And let what go? Tell me, I need to here this."
"Um…Um.. It was a mistake that night. I was just so drunk and out of my rational thinking and she was so beautiful. I couldn't resist. We'll just get her to have an abortion and everything will be alright. It won't happen again, I promise" Dev blurted really quickly.
Suddenly, he felt a hand strike his cheeks, not once but twice, the resounding noise still ringing in his ears. Looking up, he was shocked to see Geet standing in front of him, fury blazing in her eyes. "You fool, you pig, you disgusting piece of filth. How dare you suggest I abort my child! Just because you don't want it doesn't mean that I don't either" she screamed, as she slapped him once more really hard across his cheek.
Shocked that some girl, someone of a lower social status than him, some mere worker, would slap him in the face. Him, the rich and powerful Dev Khurana, he raised his hand to slap her back, meaning to teach her a lesson. However, a sudden powerful grip on his wrist stopped him from doing so right away, as he looked into the eyes of his brother, who stated in a dangerously low voice "Don't you dare think about hitting the girl."
Turning to Geet he said, "Move back to the sofa. Let me deal with this." Not wanting to get in the way of Dev being punished, Geet quickly scurried away back to the sofa, ready to watch what would happen.
"How dare you suggest the idea of an abortion. You are a Khurana and I will not tolerate any Khurana blood being raised by a single mother. You are going to marry her" he said, turning back to Dev, tightening his grip on his younger brother's hand.
"Marry her?" Dev looked dumbfounded. He didn't want to marry some village girl, he had just wanted to have some fun with her. What was his brother thinking?
"I'm not marrying her…She said she's fine raising the child by herself, so let her. We'll just send her some money every month" Dev replied indignantly.
Another slap on his cheek, this time one from his own brother. "Do you not understand what I'm saying? Or do I have to speak in another language for you to understand something so simple? You are going to marry her and raise the kid together, whether you like it or not."
Dev suddenly pulled away from his grasp. "No I won't, and there's nothing you can do about it."
"Yes there is" replied his brother, an evil smirk playing on his face. "Mr. Dev Khurana, there's a lot I can do to you if you refuse to follow what I'm saying."
"Oh really? Like what?" replied his brother, suddenly filled with an arrogance and a certain malice.
"Like kick you out of the house, which is mine according to the will" he replied, a malicious look appearing on his face.
"You know what? You don't have to kick me out of the house. I'm going to leave by myself" Dev replied instantaneously.
"And how do you plan on surviving?" his brother questioned him.
"With the money from the will of course, I'll get a job eventually and I will survive. And if you didn't notice, I have a lot of friends. Unlike you, who's always so into the work. Friends become useful you know" stated Dev, as he moved further and further back.
"We'll just see about that Dev" replied his brother as he watched him retreat from the study. "We'll just see about that."
"Mr. Khurana. I will be back soon. I will be back very soon." Then turning to Geet, Dev said "And you Geet, I would watch out if I were you. You are the cause of all of this, of me leaving my house, of me and my brother being separated. Don't think I won't get my revenge." Turning around he went out of the house, slamming the door behind him.
