dear what i could gather from your post was u r trying to put down those audience (whom u refer pseudo intellectuals ) who would want to watch something intelligent inspite of whatever ordeal they go through in their real life .I guess ur angst stem from the fact that the so called intellectuals acc to echo equally similar sentiment to bring the masala flicks lover down given the same hardships reason as before .

a) i do NOT like to PUT down anyone's opinion... but i am sick and tired of people acting all high and mighty thinking they are some sort of intellectuals and call other people dumb, but i guess you don't call that putting down anyone...? 😛

b) you call one set of audience dumb and stupid, what do you think you'll be called...? that's right... a wanna be intellectual or a pseduo intellectual... before you say anything, let me point out that 'you' is a generic "you"...

c) ordeal...? are you kidding me...?? how many people like these realistic kind of movies...? most of the audience is supposedly the multiplex audience, which we all know have a much more sound financial situation in comparison to some rickshaw drivers, etc... honestly, don't insult my intelligence... i don't claim to be an intellectual but then, i am not a novice either... i know, some people think that breaking up with their boyfriend is a huge ordeal or they may have some other issues... point is, how many look for escapist cinema...? the so-called masala movies provide just that... that is why, those movies work... considering some of the so-called intellectual movies don't even work at multiplexes, just goes to show that even the niche audience tends to go for movies that are entertaining... perhaps, they also need a break... or maybe they enjoy both...

d) my angst...? 🤔 i find it annoying, yes... might write a thesis on it one day... 😛😛

but this thread was not to demean either of section in the first place .most important which has already been discussed to death now there is no such classification of films such as Intelligent or masala .Its entirely the audience perspective the classification is totally subjective the audience prerogative .The distinction was solely made to make to topic debatable

i am not asking for a clarification on what the intent was for the topic... i merely responded after reading a few off and on responses... what's with people labeling one kind of movie as trash, etc...i guess people feel better about themselves when they are able to put others down (that's classic psychology for you)... bolded part, i agree...

the intent of the post was only to ask y cant the usual formulaic flicks can give better detailing in story character development like they give for promotion or other tasks .whats wrong in having a well defined script will properly sketched characters even if its a formula film .Cinema has creative liberty agreed but whats the harm in applying certain logic in movie .Its not an arduous task .Infact it will only enhance the film make the characters more relateable .Infact it can strike a chord with the audience as it appears close to reality .take for example y has the hero to be shown heroic needs to jump from a 10 floor building or fighting single handed with an army .Its not needed They can be included in some movies as audience like it but u still can make a more realistic approach .There is no harm in that .Audience are receptive as long as u provide them entertainment but that can be done with a logical approach can't they

i think it's simple enough and some may have already answered this... i touched upon this in my response as well... again, i am not doubting your intentions or questioning you, so you need not have presented me with your safaai... 😆 but i enjoy a good debate, so thanks for replying... 😊 there is nothing wrong with having a good script... did andaz apna apna had any logic...? yet it is considered a classic... there is nothing wrong with applying and using logic, however, understand (this is perhaps not so easy as it sounds) that different people would have different choices... most people that i know, like different genres of movies... if you only had two colors to pick from, life would be quite dull, wouldn't it...? just the same way, we have different genres... some work better in comparison to others...

btw... logic defying movies also are abundant in hollywood... yet i see some of the same people who have issues with some of the hindi movies for the same things have no problems whatsoever when it comes to hollywood...? what do you think is the reason for that...?

again, why do all movies need to be more 'realistic'...? jackie chan jumps down from a ten story building without so much as a scratch, and it's perfectly fine... but majaal hai jo some hindi actor does that... what logic is there, dare i ask...? btw, i do like jackie chan... i'm merely asking for an example... drama by itself implies exaggeration of certain situations... it's a form of art... i wish people in real life would be more logical, but alas, it's not always the case... they have their perspectives and i have mine... which is fine... not everything in life is the way we want... similary, we have diversity in the cinema as well because of the human diversity... everyone thinks differently and sees the situations differently...

putting down an opinion is fine... calling others brainless, and other choice words is not... freedom of speech does not entitle you to start belittling others...
