I mean Media literacy and media criticism are entire university disciplines, but, sure, these itv shows are just for entertainment and have no status quo they actively uphold. That's why nearly every character on itv is upper caste, rich, vegetarian. Only bad women drink and only vamps care about things like career and family planning.

Sure, everyone should just not hate on these things or just stop watching itv because it's for entertainment with favourites.

From my point of view, I don't enjoy watching the romance scenes of a couple as soon as I notice red flags in the relationship. It all feels forced and superficial to me. How do you even get past it?

The answer is yes. ITV viewers have repeatedly proven that. If not, pairs like ASR-kushi, Anika-shivaay wouldn’t have such fan-base. When a show is launched with a 2-min promo, more than the plot, the actors portraying it play a big part in gaining viewership. The more known faces, more good-looking the couple, there’s more chance the show gains online buzz. Take any ITV show, the first 100 episodes are interesting with strong characters to keep the audience hooked up. This is the time period these days that decides the longevity of the show. If a show survives this, the writers have gained a steady viewership. After that the show mostly survives because of the attachment to the actors/characters. This attachment comes with 2 kinds of viewers. Viewers who watch the show, enjoy it as long as they are able to connect to the character. When it conflicts with their own viewpoints, they lose the connect. Next are viewers who have been rooting for the character because the good-looking actor plays it, but when there’s no development in the character after every track, the support shifts to the actor. That’s when arguments to justify the character like the plot is stupid, the character is spoiled for trp etc comes into play. At this point, it has nothing to do with the show and more to do with watching 2 good-looking people romance in out-of-the-ordinary scenarios together.

As far as red flags are concerned, itv viewers in general have accepted that any character, especially MLs are always going to be, to put it mildly, chauvinists who manhandle/humiliate FL as their given birthright. The writers have interpreted this acceptance as viewers liking towards these characters. What has changed from the era of ASR to Armaan is the degree of acceptance towards these characters. The more the viewers accepted these regressive characters without redemption, the writers became more bold in making these characters more worse.

Now as far as enjoying romance of a couple even when it’s easy to identify the flaws (again to put it mildly) is concerned, personal opinion is that it has more to do how itv has romanticized these scenes. The fairytale illusion ITV has created of being that someone for whom the other has been waiting for all their life. An otherwise aggressive ML who is always there to make sure the timid FL doesnt trip while doing something as simple as walking; scenes like standing up against the evil characters to provide basic rights like food, education and basic decency; FLs whose only purpose is to heal the bleeding heart and understand the reasoning behind inhumane behaviors. The viewers have become so habituated to these scenes that nobody recognizes the fact that these are not needs that someone has to fight for you, these are basic rights of every person and the fact that the ML/FL fought for these doesn’t earn them special brownie points and isn’t a certificate to their character. That’s what any character decent character would do.

It’s a vicious circle and the argument that this is all itv offers is not entirely true, because good shows with sensible plot do not get the viewership they deserve because they lack these regular template ML-FL.

Anju comment: Same 🤩,I liked natik most and og ak and then aru

Now, I hate this show, I hate almost all ITV saas-bahu shows but I still keep myself updated with the story because ITV shows fall under the category of stuff that is absolutely ridiculous but is a great time-pass and absurdly funny.

Anju comment: watched 1 coz of amma , S3 mostly for HC but i disliked him in parts ..aru , ru and kiddo abir i did like , for me it's a habit and major time pass when I eat breakfast

So, first, a simple question was asked - can you watch anything, if you get romance scenes of leads. - How did that turn into oh, you are a hater and you still watch it, oh you are moral policing, gaslighting etc. Etc.

How is that offensive in any way?

To answer that question, I cannot watch anything just because I got enough romance in it. Love O2O was full of romance but it was bland, a straight line on the graph, and it got boring and so I stopped watching it.

Anju comment: Romance is not really my genre i prefer mild PH 13 ones that too slice of life books ..I watch for human emo and ott drama

Now, coming to the concerns about why a hater like me still watches this show.

Well, I watch 2 kinds of stuff - one that is absolutely interesting, great plot, good storyline, doesn't care if it has romance or not. They are genuinely brilliant like Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant, Badi Door Se Aaye Hain, Khichdi.

Anju comment: Sarabhai , kichdi and bahu hamari i liked

Second category is of batshit crazy, absolutely ridiculous stuff that is troll worthy, meme worthy and simply a great time pass like YRRKH, Kumkum & Kundali Bhagya, Anupama etc.

I like making fun of these shows, I enjoy laughing seeing the absurdity that they are. Aren't ITV shows watched for entertainment?

So by making me laugh, by making me want to troll it, it is entertaining me and fulfilling it's purpose. That is why I watch it.

Anju comment: i like ott drama and layers of human emo , i like discussing what I think.. usually I don't like mahaan sacrifice leads . Impulsive peep turn me off . No matter how good they are I don't want such peep if I can in my life .

I am hoping that answered both the questions raised in this thread.

Putting my comments below Shonali paras ..we seem to have some wave length in some matters

Some people still call Ruhi a villain but she hasn’t done even 1% of all the nonsense Delulu has done. She didn’t hid the secret about Abheera’s kid. She didn’t cancel her licence in a fake bribery case, didn’t make her a beggar or publicly CAed her.. Yeh saare mahan kaam Armaan sa ne kiye yet he’s better coz after every blunder he sheds tears..

And Abheera who’s self respect is Eid ka chand..which conveniently pops up in certain tracks while rest of the time she’s happily doing jhadu, pocha and welcoming her criminal Maaa and getting insulted.. Fact is Abhimaan are exceptionally incompatible and aren’t meant to be together. By now they should’ve known this. Abheera can never adjust in a joint family, she tried but failed. It would’ve been better if she had moved on.

Or their story would’ve made sense if makers had taken leap post Ruhaan past revelation and them becoming better versions of themselves.. but who cares all fans want is gulu gulu bed rolling scenes.. As long as illogical trip and fall and other romantic scenes are given story can be a complete mess and fans will happily accept..

Whatever u said about ar is so true ..one more point ar did not make a see the kid face one last time ..in real life doc says it's imp to move on and helps mom accept reality. Ar did not see the grieving ru ..even though he knew the truth that her kid is alive.

But another thing that irked me was she promised abir justice but then pedalled back and got v mata out .. any one does anything to any of my siblings they are cut off emo atleast even if related and yes I have done this with one bua and cousin.

And you’re right. Because of a woman’s idiocy and recklessness, a mother lost her son, a man lost his brother, his unborn kids but they were wrong to grieve, they were wrong to expect basic decency of giving them space from Ak, they were extremely wrong to call out her dumbness which resulted in deaths. And “that man” was wrong to expect after signing divorce papers like a sensible human Ak will go to her maternal house Goenkas.

But “that woman” is no where wrong for hoping on a bus making a random roadside stranger her kid’s fatherji, doing paternity fraud.

And some people have selective amnesia. “That man” did apologise when he met Ak at Kasauli (despite never doing any mistake). But “that woman” was too egoistic and was blindly supported by her dog and hence she never apologised for all the blunders and crimes she did.

What’s hilarious is “that man” didn’t even do 1% of crap Delulu has done.. always lived for others.. never CA his love even when she stayed with a random stranger for a year but he’s a toxic red flag.. But the one who accepts his mistake and repeats it a zillion time and again accepts and repeats, has treated Abheera in the most inhumane way is bettersmiley32..

I may not like manyu for abandoning ru and many other reasons but he was a fairly decent person

He lost his bro and his kids all he wanted was space ..in some way her impulsive nature led to niel death and no one can justify this ..if niel has not gone she would have so niel went and lost his life . Ru never got to see her father ..she did not apologise to aru nor manyu by accepting her mistake . She could have gone to gorilla house for a month

No way can u compare manyu to ar ..

Romance in poverty , I'm not sure , lets see how well it's received but for me it's abs senseless bec two people who were topshot lawyers 24 hrs ago are on streets with no savings, investments or friend circle to help , not their education & career to help them , dono lota Balti leke line mei lage hai . Now this may be the time for romance for some bec they're away from poddars , I don't see the head or tail of it.

BTW this is the third time abhira became a beggar. Aur this is apparently the best phase of abhimaan🧐

I like to see drama, kalesh, fighting, mudslinging, insults, toxicity, crying. Romance toh I don't want to see at all. Baki if I get all of the above, I am fine with the show
