Lizzie,

Many a time, I get the same experience as yours. The cover is made so well that it matches or surpasses the original, giving you a double dhamaka pleasure.

A thousand years is Christina Perry Song. But I loved it more in this cover. When Rafi- Lata sing a duet, I like Rafi more. Maybe it's just about being a woman so more attracted to male voicessmiley36...... or maybe some songs are meant for a male voice.... Like the Air supply song Making Love Out of Nothing at All is made into a female voice cover for many VMs; but I still prefer original male version more.

M.S. Subbalaxmi is phenomenal in her songs. But when I came across this cover by a very young Sooryagaayathri, it gave me the same happiness. I appreciated the cover more because of the young age of the girl and her dedication.

Hi Neha, thanks for sharing. I get what you mean about the Thousand years cover. It's an acoustic version and hence the voice comes across stronger and therefore the singer's talent feels better emphasized.

Also get what you mean about Rafi and Lata, though at times it's the key they sing in especially in duets or even male-female versions of the same song. Case in point: Tasveer teri dil mein - Rafi's voice seems better suited to the key especially in the antara where the scale shifts to a high pitch and Rafi seems better able to carry it off whereas Lata's already high Soprano voice feels stretched to its limit. But then again, if you see - Salilda seems to have faith in Lata's ability to carry those high scales off from the number of songs he gave her in those scales, Woh ek nigaah kya mili for example has her trilling like a bird while Kishoreda does the same thing in a lower pitch.

Air Supply were among my favorite pop bands growing up - I even wrote an FF with one of their songs as the Title - Lost in love smiley36. Yeah, the female version of Making love out of nothing at all wouldn't cut it for me.

That being said, I know it's also about what one is more familiar with. I know people who swear by Joe Cocker's cover of 'With a little help from my friends' but I hate it smiley8. For me, the Beatles' version will always remain superior.

I love Sooryagayathri's rendition of Hanuman Chalisa - such a faithful cover of MS amma's original. And such a brave one too, one should applaud the effort. Her diction is flawless and some of the gamakas she renders like in 'raam rasayan tumre paasa' were breathtaking. That being said, MS & her voice has been a staple in my household growing up and those versions bring a kind of comfort and familairity (for me, personally) that's hard to explain. So. yeah, personal preferences and experiences - the memories associated with those versions and also which version you heard first matters a great deal I think.

Firstly, Hugs and thanks to Lizzie for the reminder of Rafi Saab's anniversary. Somehow in the morning, I heard one of his song and then YT gave all his songs prompts so I got completely immersed in Rafi Saab.

Celebrating Rafi: The Immortal Golden Voice

Is there any emotion which he could not portray through his melodious voice!

The flirting of Devanand smiley9, the experimentation of music by Sachinda in this song, the voice of Rafi and the acting by Dev Anand and Nootan. Film: Tere Ghar ke Saamne Song: Tu kahaa yeh bata

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgezoiBPgWI

The frustration of Gurudattsmiley19.... The lyrics by Sahir Ludhianawi brought alive by Rafi pulling hard at your heart..... Jaise koi jhanjhodake rakh deta ho Film: Pyasa Song: Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi jaaye toh kya hai

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z6Lr0JYAro

Bollywood moved ahead of BnW and became coloured..... New heroes emerged with newer styles and Rafi's voice imbibed the colour of change...... His Yaaaaahooo! There must not be any living being who hasn't heard it..... so I put the lesser known Suku Suku..... specially matching the ataranki actions of Shammi

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG8s4uc0MZM

Technically, in terms of rarity, the Shashi Kapoor song humko tumpe pyaar aaya in the film Jab Jab Phool Khile, is the lesser known Song. But Shashi is trying to copy Shammi so not really appealing. And there's restriction of 3 YT links, so maintaining that.

Rafi saab, aap hum sab ke dilo mein humesha humesha jinda rahogesmiley27
