Hello music lovers!

We've had this idea brewing in our minds for a while - the thought of having a common thread that would serve as a commemorative one for important dates associated with music, musicians and allied artists.

FAQs

What does 'commemorative' mean?

Well, it means celebrating, remembering, paying tribute to an artist or musician or a musical piece of work such as a song, album or OST on an important date/ milestone in their lives.

What should I post here?

If you know that today is the Birth/death anniversary of an artist or an important milestone year since the release of a song or an album, you can make your own tribute post on said artist/musical work and post it here and invite other members (by tagging) to post their own thoughts/reminiscences/ have discussions on the artist/ musical work.

What kind of content am I allowed to share?

You can share Social Media updates, tribute articles, songs, news, interviews, trivia, and any other bits of information on the subject of commemoration. Apart from your own penned tribute or thoughts, of course!

Whom can I include in my commemorative posts?

Well, obviously all artists associated with the musical world including:

music directors, lyricists, singers, pop and rock artists, regional and international artists, bands, Classical (Indian and Western) musicians, instrumentalists, arrangers, choreographers, dancers, ..in short, any celebrity in the world of music and dance, regardless of culture, country of origin, or era.

In Indian films, playback is an important feature and the actor/ actress also contribute to a song since they are the face presented to the audience performing the song on screen. So we will allow commemorative posts on them too. But please avoid posting dialogues or scenes of the actors. Since this is Music Corner, actors can be commemorated only musically... so you can only post songs picturized on them.

Keep this in mind when you post tributes for character actors - some may not have sung/ performed any song on screen.

For film directors/ producers and all other non- music related artists, please use Movie forums (Bollywood/ Hollywood/ Regional cinema forums) to post your tributes.

In addition, you can also commemorate a milestone year of release of a musical piece.

Say, you know it's the 40th anniversary of the release of Michael Jackson's album, Thriller, you can make a post here talking about it and posting songs from the album, telling us why you like it, how it impacted you and tag others to join in the discussion.

We will keep this thread pinned so that it's readily available for people to find. If you have any other questions, please post them on the thread, and we'll do our best to answer them and update them in the first post for the benefit of all members.

We hope you will find this a welcome space to discuss and appreciate artists and songs that have enriched your life.

Today, Nov 23, is Geeta Dutt's birth anniversary.

I love her voice - it's so rich and full of depth. She could bring out playfulness, sensuality, sorrow, devotion - you name it and she could produce it.

What a rich, amazing legacy she left behind. Her personal life unfortunately cut short her career, else we could have been blessed with many more Geeta Dutt songs.
