About the childish"innocence". The fact that many grown-ass people harp on this childish innocence in a grown-up woman is extremely disturbing and unsettling. What exactly they are looking for ?
Madhuri Dixit is a far better actor than Sridevi and Manisha or most of actors from the mainstream Bollywood. What she lacks in PR and propaganda she makes up in acting talent, dancing skills and her immense popularity .
I find it baffling, too, but the explanation for this "who's more innocent" competition seems simple and rooted in the thoroughly misogynist and judgmental patriarchal culture. Apparently, nothing is more terrifying than women who make their own choices and want to be treated as actual human beings. Too often If the actress's face does not emote innocence in a scene requiring to be (vaguely) erotic, people basically trash her - her the person, rather than her the character. Everywhere else people understand the difference between reality and fiction. The idiocy of it all boggles the mind.
One more reason to appreciate Madhuri - when she played a woman (as opposed to a gal pal, a tomboy, a shy, sanskari bahu etc.) totally, unconditionally in love (and having the actual hots for the guy), it felt organic, believable., and never vulgar.
God bless her soul but Divya Bharati as an actress was no great shakes either like this forum makes her out to be and used to imitate Sridevi way too much

I watched Saudagar(1991) first day first show like I did many other films in the 90's. When I came out of the theater I was crushing Manisha Koirala. The fact that she was a Prime Minsiter's daughter made her even more different.
But there was something off I could not put my finger on. I realised she was aping Sridevi when I watched Saudagar the second time next week. That was a big turn-off. I was hoping she would get over it but she did not. No wonder her promising career went kaput.
If Divya Bharati had not met with unfortunate death her career might have suffered the same fate. Manisha Koirala is one of the most beautiful female actor in history of bollywood. You could get glimpses of her talent once in a while but for most part it was not her but some other 'actor' she was aping on the screen. Aping an actor whose bollywood career was mostly built on PR is bound to fail and it did. MK was a good actor. There was no need for her to ape anybody. One of her better roles was Kiran in Akele hum and Akele Tum which a remixed remake of Abhiman andKramer Vs Kramer.
Sridevi suffered the same problems that most professional child actors suffered from.
Even though she grew up the child actor in her never did. For her, acting became making weird childish faces that was adorable when she was a child actor but was just plain irritating as a grown-up woman. Even her dialogue delivery and voice was childish. No wonder her most memorable roles are Sadma where she had to play the role of a child and Lamhe where she is an adolescent girl in love with a grown up man.
It is good that MD,Taboo, Juhi, Kajol and others from 90's did not ape Sridevi.
OMG...finally an authentic person who has seen 90s era from his own eyes during those golden days.
I absolutely second you, not due to comparison with Madhuri but due to the fact that MANISHA INDEED COPIED SEIDEVI in many movies, she even copied her body language & gestures as well.
And not only Manisha, but URMILA AS WELL copied sridevi in many movies.
Just watch KAUN where manoj bajpai first time comes to the kitchen and urmila says in a shocked angry voice " AAP YAHAAH KYA KAR RAHAY HAIN"...trust me you will feel as if Sridevi is speaking with same voice tone, module & way of essaying the dialogues, even her eyes n facial expressions plus body gestures were exactly copied from Sridevi.
Manisha was a copy cat...she not only imitated Sridevi a lot, but also started copying her colleague POOJA BHATT during 92-95 span of her career with the same WIDE OPEN MOUTH and keeping it open for long as surprised expressions in films like Milan etc what Pooja bhatt started doing in films like JAANAM & Sir etc with same expressions...it was Pooja's signatured thing, Manisha never did initially but only started doing it after few releases of Pooja...the copying cannot be missed if you have an observant eye.

Oh yes, I completely forgot Urmila Matondkar. She too aped Sridevi. Thanks for the reminder.

Maybe they expect the actor to portray a romantic scene with "innocence"
@surajhere she isn’t a Prime minister’s daughter, more granddaughter. Her father was never a prime minsiter. He does come from an illustrious political family.

Manisha flopped in Nepali movies. 😂😂😂🤭
She barely did any Nepali movies though. Plus, Nepali movies back then weren't that good either.
