Hadi is one of the most intelligently written fictional characters I have ever come across which is why it irks me when people treat him like any round about the mill t0xIc character. The multiple facets to him,the nuances, the top notch character development that his character had is extremely rare. That character can be interpreted in more than one way and can be the subject of essays. For instance I believe that his all consuming obsession with Khaani was a manifestation of his underlying guilt over Sarim's murder and he ended up interpreting it as love because it was an attempt by his subconscious to protect him from the painful experience of remorse which he eventually did when he let go of Khaani after kidnapping her from her wedding. And if we rewatch the scene in which he is being led to the gallows we will notice that while it begins with his visions of the imaginary moments that he spent with Khaani it transitions into his memory of their final meeting at the prison in which she had nothing but coldness for him in her eyes. I don't know whether it was intended or not but I interpreted the scene as him letting go of the fantasy he had been holding on to and embracing reality right before he believed that he was about to breathe his last.
People need to watch Khaani with an open mind without letting it get clouded by judgements or preconceived notions against problematic characters in order to enjoy the fascinating roller coaster ride that is Mir Hadi. Hadi isn't the hero or the villain of the story. He IS is the story.
You have a beautiful interpretation here, I love the fact that how we can draw multiple conclusions on what Hadi had actually felt for Khaani, a character like this comes once in ages and this character's arc had everything, I still salute the writer, I mean giving your supposed 'controversial' male lead an arc that defines the whole central point of the show is commendable and how wrong could this go had the performance by Feroze not been pitch perfect?
Coming back to Hadi's guilt being manifested as love, I still somehow feel that love was there in his every bone, yes initially I could see his guilt and her grief was making him weak and drawing him more towards her, but I still remember Hadi himself being jolted and literally traumatized that how come he was feeling weird, how did he feel that peace even though he let go Khaani to marry someone else, that whole conversation with Mithal, on 'What has happened to me Mithal?' and Mithal subtly replying that 'This is your ishq, which is selfless because you allowed her to be happy with her life', that beauty of a shot and then Hadi dropping the alcohol bottle and kissing Mithal's wrist, how beautiful was that writing? I can watch it for infinite number of times.
Also, when he hallucinates Sarim's blood all over his hands and face, the first thing he blurts out to Mir Shah is that 'This is why Khaani ran away from me', that breakdown was more like him realizing that he caused so much pain to the woman whom he claimed to love and neither he was able to handle the trauma and nor he was being able to deal and accept it, that break down was so heavy on my heart, I was depressed for two days like WTH is happening and why am I feeling so bad for him when he indeed was responsible for all the bad things that had happened to Khaani.
