He is very clear that she is not just someone he is interested in but the woman he wants to marry so proposal was absolutely expected. In fact he was trying to get to it during the walk. Zubia is not the type of woman he can romance without a serious proposal and nor is Asfand inclined to treat her that way.

Her refusal is also expected, perhaps she is afraid of losing the respect she is getting from him and his family...
