The fact that she gets pregnant in coma defeats medical science

A Woman in Argentina Became Pregnant in a Coma After Being Raped

In this nightmarish situation, the woman's family is faced with an important question: What do you do about a pregnancy that's not only medically risky, but also the result of sexual question?

Late last month, a local Spanish-language publication in Argentina published an account of an almost uniquely awful case in medical history: A woman became pregnant due to rape while in a coma.

The woman has not been identified in the media in order to protect her and her family's privacy, and it's not clear who assaulted her or where, since she was recently moved from one healthcare facility to another and has been in contact with multiple male staff members and relatives. The family is not pressing charges in the case, which means the police will not investigate.

In 1996, the New York Times reported on the case of a 29-year-old womanidentified only by her first name, Kathywho had become pregnant after being in a coma for ten years. When she later gave birth to a baby boy, it was cited as "the only known case of someone becoming pregnant and giving birth in a comalike state."

Kathy died about a year later, just a few weeks before her rapistwho had been a nursing aidewas convicted for the assault. The baby was raised by Kathy's mother, who also pushed for legislation in New York State that would require background checks for nursing aides and provide other safeguards against abuse in nursing facilities. That law, known as "Kathy's Law," was put into effect in 1998.

Sana's review

While occupied in my daily chores, running after the kids and trying to get my work notes done, all of a sudden I realized it was Wednesday and a small smile formed on my lips as I went into my own make believe world of Hamza and Kinza, for whom I even made a very special video. I sat down to watch it as soon as I had a moment to spare hoping that the episode does not disappoint me and it did not, except that it was too short and ended too quickly. The story moved forward, slowly but surely, and how I wish I had control of the gas pedal so I can accelerate it. That being said, there were a few twists and confessions, which made up for the indolence of the last couple of weeks. An interesting story and top notch direction makes up for the lousy editing and the blaring background score.

The court scenes were the ones that intrigued me the most, since I do not have knowledge of the laws in Pakistan. The defense lawyer repulsed me the most with the way he yelled at Pakeeza which was downright disrespectful and totally uncalled for. If the court scenes were an actual depiction of the proceedings in a court in Pakistan, then major reforms are needed. There is no way the prosecutor can prove that the Janitor raped Pakeeza since there is no DNA to make the case; unless the rapist himself admits to it somehow. The only proof they have is the video of the Janitor leaving Pakeeza's room, which cannot be used in the court of law to prove rape. I was wondering the need to resurface Pakeeza's picture fiasco, but after watching today's episode I understood the necessity of doing so; to make a point that it is not the social media's fault, or Pakeeza's but the mindset of the people around us who compel mothers like Khadeeja to take such atrocious steps.

Saba Hameed as Khadeeja has been phenomenal throughout this show, depicting the pain of a mother who chose to kill one daughter to save the honor of another. She acted exactly like the antelope who has no choice but to save one baby out of her clan from the hungry lion and runs leaving the rest behind to fetch for themselves, hoping some of them will manage to escape. Perhaps this is the reason Pakeeza did not blame her mother, not even once, because she knew her mother's situation, being a single parent and a divorced daughter. The remorseful Khadeeja, unable to withstand her daughter being subjected to intense questioning, admitted in front of everyone in the court that she poisoned Pakeeza. Her best scene though was when she was pleading to Kinza to let her in to her room to explain herself, a desperate mother's distraught state clearly visible. But to be fair to her, she truly thought Pakeeza had died, and I think that is what she wanted to tell Kinza.

Despite all Ramsha had done for Pakeeza, she still felt guilty and finally confessed in court that she was the one who sent Pakeeza's pictures to Hamza's mom. I honestly do not think it was that big of a crime, because Hamza's mother would have figured it out on her own sooner or later. Also, Ramsha realized her mistake and asked for forgiveness. Sadia Ghaffar has improved dramatically in this series and I enjoy watching her scenes; she has given her best and it shows. Kinza too finally discovered the truth about her sister in this episode and I am anxious to know what is in store for her next. Nadia Khan was only present for a couple of scenes and I surely missed her. Hopefully we will get see more of her in the upcoming episodes.

Sonya Hussyn, Sami Khan and Saba Hameed are without a doubt the triumphant winners of this serial. Although, initially I did not have a connection with Pakeeza's characters, in the last couple of episodes, Hussyn has managed to get into the skin of her character and portray Pakeeza's emotional state with utmost simplicity and vulnerability. Pakeeza knowing the magnitude of the situation, asks Hamza to continue his relationship with Kinza and her mother as previously. Hamza halfheartedly agreed to Pakeeza's request and conveyed that to Khadeeja as well. Sami Khan and Sonya Hussyn had a scene together and I still think they don't have the chemistry that Hamza and Kinza share.

A shattered Hamza, after discovering the truth about Pakeeza's rape, makes a commitment that he will now ease Pakeeza's pain moving forward, and it is yet to be seen how far he will go to please her and keep his promise. Sami Khan is an epitome of talent and his stellar performance has made Hamza's character more endearing than ever. By giving precise balance of empathy, anger and despair to Hamza, Sami Khan has managed to connect with the audience in a most convincing fashion.

As the story unfolds further, it will be interesting to see the emotional turmoil of Hamza, Kinza and Pakeeza with their current situation. The upcoming episodes will be poignant in this manner and I am looking forward to see a fervent Hamza, a steadfast Pakeeza and a sensitive Kinza rise to fight the storm that is raging within them and emerge as winners in the end.

Huh? It has happened my dear. You've not heard of it? There have been cases in the US as well of rape while intubated and getting pregnant back in 70's.

What does getting pregnant have anything to do with being intubated?

Your brain functions during coma. You're just not conscious. If your brain wasn't functioning you wouldn't be making urine, pooping, digesting food. Same concept,
