Hello music lovers,
We're back with another musical theme this Sunday!
"Apparel oft proclaims the man" as Polonius says to his son, Laertes in Shakespeare's famous play, Hamlet, a quote we now know better as "Clothes maketh the man" (or the woman or the person).
Counted as one of the basic physiological needs forming the bottom of the pyramid in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, clothes aren't just a necessity - they're also a statement of purpose, of identity.
Apparel can help you express your mood, or even alter your mood. How many of us have woken up in surly mood only to feel better when we don our favorite dress and pair of shoes, grab our fancy purse and step out into the world?
Dressing nattily and with style can make a statement by itself, but adding some adornments can emphasize this statement. Be it a snazzy bracelet, a pair of pearl-drop earrings, a classy brooch or a delicate pendant. Indian ethnic dressing involves a lot more such adornments, the bindiya being the prime among them for women.
So this week we are posting songs related to
- Items of clothing: hats, all types of clothes, boots, scarves, ties, dupattas etc etc
- Adornments: All items of jewelry, including bindis
- Accessories: Bags, purses, wallets, belts, hair bands, gloves. watches etc (we will exclude glasses since these have been covered in TOTW # 45)
We will also be excluding make-up since this has been covered in TOTW # 33.
The following rules will apply:
- Songs of any language, any genre, any era are welcome.
- The lyrics need to have one or more items of clothing mentioned in them. If the title of the song does not have a mention, please post the part of the lyric that does so we know how it fits the theme.
- If you're posting in a language other than English or Hindi, please give a rough translation of the part of the lyric that pertains to the theme (does not need to be the entire song)
- Do not make more than 5 posts at a time and give others a chance to post too.
- Try not to repeat songs (refer to the posted songs' list on Page 1 that I'll keep updated from time to time)
- It would be wonderful if you included credits to the people behind the song.
- Any songs with extreme themes or adult content can be posted under the 'Mature post' option and you can also mention a Trigger warning in your post.
