What happened when Kolkata and Sunrisers met in the league stage?

Kolkata opened their IPL 2024 campaign at the Eden Gardens against the Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this season. On a fine batting deck, KKR were reduced to 51 for four before a fifty from Phil Salt and a brutal assault from Andre Russell (64 not out of 25 balls) powered the hosts to 208/7.

In reply, SRH maintained a stern attack against constant wickets before Heinrich Klaasen's onslaught laced with eight sixes threatened to take the team home. However, a remarkable final over from Harshit Rana denied SRH the win as the young seamer defended 12 runs in the final over.

SRHโ€™s Powerplay domination

Fuelled by the charge from Abhishek and Head, the Sunrisers have dominated the powerplay batting this season with 920 runs in 13 innings, with a strike rate of 185.93. The Sunrisers have also played out the least dot balls in the phase (165). KKR are fourth with 788 runs at a 168.99 strike rate.

The Sunrisers have smashed 55 sixes in the first six overs with Abhishek topping the charts with 28 maximums โ€“ a record among all batters in the PowerPlay in IPL history. The young southpaw also became the first Indian batter to amass 40 sixes in a season during Sundayโ€™s outing against Punjab Kings in Hyderabad.

I'm very much scared today for kkr

Yeah, SRH ending up in today's game has made me nervous. They are in the best position to beat KKR, and if they do, then KKR is likely to find it even tougher against RCB, who I expect to trounce RR.

If KKR win today's match, I expect the final to be b/w KKR and SRH. But if KKR lose today's game, I expect the final to be b/w SRH and RCB

unil Narine smashed his maiden T20 century for KKR vs RR in Kolkata on Tuesday. (Sportzpics)

The two powers had blended powerfully this season. So far, he has smashed 461 runs at a strike rate of 182 and grabbed 15 wickets conceding only 6.63 runs an over. Only seven batsmen have ever managed to plunder 450-plus runs at a strike rate of 175 or more, showing how arduous it is to score fast and score consistently. Thirty nine runs more and he would become the first cricketer in the league to score 500 runs and snare 15 wickets. Only Shane Watson has scored more runs (472) and taken more wickets (17) than Narine in a single episode (2008)

If that happens tonight, KKR should have either Venky or Nitish Rana bat 1 down. You already have Narine at the other end hitting like he doesn't care one bit about his wicket, but you can't have that both ends, or else, you'll have a collapse. So if Gurbaz goes early, send in one of these 2 w/ instructions to anchor the innings, at least until over 10
