Post for Pitch Report from the stadium closer to the game

Pitch Report | Matthew Hayden and Simon Doull: We are right in the centre of the stadium, 66m away to the leg-side, 66 away to the off-side. Some big pockets, 73, 72, and 74, and downtown it is 74 as well. I believe it is a bat first conditions in finals, there might be few overhead conditions that might change the mind of the captains at the toss. But, when you think about the last game as well, you can take just one player, Shubman Gill a 129, got dropped on 30 and went on to make a monstrous score. When you think of last final as well, 130 was posted here at this venue. What happened? They got hammered didn’t they! So, at the end of the day, it is really about whatever you do, do it right first. Again it’s the rolled grass through the conditions. There is not a lot of turn here, but maybe, through the middle, these world class spinners who get a little grip as well. Bat first, if you really do, you gotta go really big, so I am saying it is probably a 180-190 par score. This surface hasn’t been really quite as good as no. 7, this is the no. 6, it hasn’t produced quite the numbers, but if you bat first, bat well, do the job right, and you might be good enough,

Probable best batter

Shubman Gill:

Young opener Shubman Gill is in phenomenal form in the ongoing season. The 23-year-old has hit 851 runs in 16 matches so far and with that, he is currently leading the IPL Orange Cap race. He has scored three centuries in his last four innings and on top of that, the cricketer has a terrific record in the Narendra Modi Stadium. Thus, he will have the confidence to help the team win the trophy once again.

Probable best bowler

Mohammed Shami:

Veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami can prove to be extremely dangerous with the new ball. He has picked up 28 wickets in 16 matches so far and with that, he is currently leading the IPL Purple Cap race.

In Qualifier 2, GT opener Shubman Gill wreaked havoc, scoring 129 runs off just 60 deliveries against Mumbai Indians and with that, the 23-year-old managed to hit his third century in his last four matches. Sai Sudharsan too looked in great form while with the ball, Mohammed Shami managed to pick up two wickets while Mohit Sharma once again was in brilliant form, picking up his maiden five-for this season.

When it comes to Chennai, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be a massive threat to Gujarat. They eventually crashed GT’s party in Qualifier 1 and now, on a batting-friendly pitch, the duo can prove to be very dangerous in the middle. On top of that, MS Dhoni has the much-needed experience that Hardik seems to be missing and that can prove to be a massive difference in the summit clash.

Interestingly both these sides -- CSK and GT -- had kicked off the season at the same venue, so IPL 2023 has come full circle.

If one observes closely, both these teams keep things simple, back their players, and create a relaxed team environment. Even Hardik Pandya has praised the CSK team environment recently but on the field, he will look to trump Dhoni.

Sunday's game will be Dhoni's 11th IPL final (his tenth with CSK) and no player has featured in more summit clashes. On the other hand, Pandya has been a part of five finals before 2023, with an amazing record of winning on all occasions (four with Mumbai Indians and one with Gujarat Titans)> Meanwhile, CSK will have a chance to equal the historic number (five) of titles with Mumbai Indians while Titans, who surprised everyone by emerging as champions in their debut season, will be keen to make it two in two.
