It is world cup and everyone wants to have a chance to watch the matches live. It is a common practice to schedule matches across the country. Since two countries are hosting this world cup, they have to schedule matches in both countries. To make matters easy, two groups are playing in one country and the other two groups in the other country. Compared to IPL each team travelled a lot less.

One stadium is not possible. The pitches deteriorate after every few matches. Grounds need maintenance in between.
