Aia doesn't look good sarees barring in RRKPK and her own literal wedding. Maybe she just doesn't feel comfortable in sarees. This hairdo with gaudy maangtika would have been gorg for late-90s' fancy dress at school. The hairdo could have been saved sans the maangtika and with lots of flowers to match the theme.
Sabyasachi is a boring, unimaginative, and a pretty exploitative designer with a colonial memsahib hangover. So, not surprised that this costume makes Alia so miserable.
