Okay lets assume, that scenario is, their is no Dhamaal franchise, and today Dhamaal is released. Series of things would have:
(A) Looking at the cast, it would be same as previously a sleeper hit or above average grosser, because the movie lacks a name to get good numbers of screens and publicity.
(B) Critics would have been harsh on the movie, as they were before, but problem would be this time, the harsh critics would bring a certain bad rep in the social media, and despite general public loving it, wannabes of social media would run a smear campaign against it, that it is trash, like they do to every comedy movie. Comedy movies get appreciated only later on, go and search for reviews of every Priyadarshan comedies, and you will find most of the critics have not given them much credit, it is only later when audience watched them in television repeated, that they started getting the love.
The only comedy in last decade positively received was Stree, and it had all the favorites of these critics, hence critics were mixed, and didn't do the outright trashing that they do to every comedy.
