This is sad , why are the music composers silent on this issue
Its actually more complex than it looks like. Firstly the media in the last few years has not given any izzat or significant coverage to music unlike 90s when there used to be banners of MDs like Nadeem Shravan and Anand Milind.
Secondly if these guys are not being paid royalties or even their song making fee, that means they do not have lakhs of rupees to spend on publicity. People like Bhushan Kumar spend crores on marketing alone to make their new artists become a new known face. And media is a paid medium...if music directors have spent enough money on maintaining a PR, building an image and then pay media outlets to publish their statement this would have happened a long time ago. But like I mentioned they lack the funds. Also the articles where they have spoken up have not gone viral or even posted on websites like I-F. Whats the point of them speaking up if no one is taking them seriously?
The music industry also lacks the plaform due to not spending money on PR. Viju Shah recently called out remakes on MX Player's Times of Music because he finally got a platform to speak up. Imagine his emotions when his song Aankh Maare crossed 1 Billion and Bagchi gets all the credit.
Lastly the ones who are currently working are either thriving in the industry based on today's rules (Bagchi, Badshah etc) or even they have houses to run so they have to keep shut. If they say anything negative there is a chance they will be thrown out of the industry and with no royalties, they will end up bankrupt.
Also who takes their statement seriously? Everytime Sonu Nigam or Abhijeet openly spoke about music industry people called them attention seekers and negative . I saw it on this very forum. On the other hand totally made up stories by actors were lapped up by members. Its only because of the untimely demise of an incredible talent that now people have started taking it seriously.
Till the time the public doesn't voice their opinion and support artists and call out the bullies, there is no point in pointing out fingers as to why people aren't speaking up.
If tomorrow a Bombay Times or a Pinkvilla end up taking statements of veterans from the industry and publicise it so that it reaches people only then will the truth be out.
